Morning Walk: Marshalling at parkrun
steevc just finished a 5.68km walk, that lasted for 123 minutes.

This was my third week in a row of volunteering. There was doubt that it would go ahead due to some flooding from the river. When I got up I was checking for the update as I would have run at Stevenage otherwise.
It was cold overnight, but soon warmed up in the sunshine. I actually overdressed for the temperature. There was still a big puddle on one corner, but they had decided it was okay to go ahead. I went the other way to my station on the far side of the course. It was pretty slippery in places as the mud had thawed.
The turnout was good considering the conditions. People do not like to miss a week. I tried to encourage them. A guy who was walking his dogs stopped for a chat. He has done a few parkruns too. I also enjoyed listening to all the birdsong.
My daughter was running this time and told me her socks were wet as she came past. She struggled a bit with the mud as her shoes do not have much grip. I think everyone would have been sliding a bit, so you have to be careful. It was not a week for fast times.
I hope to be running again next week. I saw a friend on the way home. The road is closed again for the new drains being put in, so it is fairly quiet in the village, apart from the noise of diggers. They have a big truck that seems to suck out the mud.
The thatch on the White Horse is all finished and looks good. We are off out later, so I need to do some drum practice for the band practice tomorrow.

Are you able to wear spikes for stuff like that or does it tear up the land too much?
I've never used spikes, but the terrain is quite variable. Some of it has gravel and bits of concrete, so spikes may get damaged and may not grip in soft mud anyway. Studded shoes are the best option.
Keep going, you're smashing your training at the moment and getting stronger every day.

cold is not good for the immune system nor the body
Who says? It wasn't that cold and I was out in the snow this week.
I think the cold is a great way to train your immune system.. and especially moving when it's colder to keep the blood pumping and flowing is even better!
However, not, when you actually have a cold, then it will most likely be counterproductive.
What are you volunteering for ? I didn't get this ?

There Are A few park runs popping up here in Norwich now my nearest one being about 30 minute walk away at the park every Saturday at 9am probably doable but annoyingly I work the majority of weekends
That's a shame. They have to do it when the most people can get there. I think it's a great scheme that is getting lots of people active.
