Morning Run: Shokz bone conduction headphones
steevc just finished a 7.06km run, that lasted for 41 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 516.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
It was a wet run today, as the forecast predicted. I did not sleep great and my legs felt stiff, so it is not so bad a run really. It took me ten minutes or so to get going. It was fairly quiet out, but some of the regular walkers were around. I just did a lap of Fairfield, but did not go flat out. I will have to try for a new segment PR when I feel better and the weather is not holding me back.
As usual I was wearing my Shokz (was Aftershokz when I got them) bone conduction headphones. I have had these for two years and am very happy with them. I listen to podcasts when I am running, but want to be aware of what is around me. These leave your ears clear. The downside of that is that they do not block any noise, so may not be great if you run somewhere with a lot of noisy traffic. They also stay firmly on my head without being uncomfortable. They are really light. This review complains about the battery life, but they will go for much longer than I will run and are quick to recharge. It might be an issue if you were walking all day.
The controls work well. There is a big button to pause or take a phone call. When you get a call you hear Ride of the Valkyries. I am not sure that can be changed.
They seem pretty tough with no signs of wear so far. There are no foam pads on the parts that send vibration through your skull to your inner ear. Sound quality is adequate for listening on the go. My podcasts sound fine and most music will be okay, but may lose something compared to decent conventional headphones.
I also use them when commuting or just doing things around the house and garden. A lack of wires means they do not get in the way. I would get another set if these died.

That's good that they stay on your head while you are running. I also like the fact that they keep your ears open so you can be aware of what is going on around you. I think all of these noise cancelling things have a place, but most people use them in places where they really need to be alert. I did a workout this morning, but it kicked my butt. I am dealing with a bit of bronchitis I think.
I had some wireless ear bugs before, but they wouldn't stay in my ears. I like these much better.
I'm not ill as such, but not feeling at my best. Will keep running when I can to keep the fitness up.
Stay well.
My earbuds fit in my ears okay and I can mow lawn with them in, but I haven't tried running at all.
You're smashing your training at the moment and getting stronger every day.
