dannewton just finished a 10.5km run, that lasted for 64 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 852.0 calories.

Description from Strava: Yet again, another attempt at getting to parkrun, and another excuse found to not go. To be fair this time, the excuse was reasonable ie the weather was absolutely appalling!

We've just come from several days of sub zero temperatures, which were bloomin' cold, but at least it was manageable once I figured out where to run to avoid ice. I had checked the weather forecast yesterday:

...and realised that this cold snap was about to drastically change as Storm 'Bert' was to hit the country in the early hours of Saturday morning, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.

The flood risk would of course be exacerbated by the frozen ground and snow covering much of the UK.

Parkruns were cancelled up and down the country, including 2 of the 3 'runs local to me. Both Doddington and Yarborough closed, but there was an announcement ay 8am on the Facebook page declaring that the Lincoln parkrun was going ahead, and indeed I can see by the results that over 250 hardy souls turned up and gave it a go

Fair play to 'em!

I however decided that it wasn't worth the risk, particularly as I was concerned with the early rain falling onto frozen pavements, and turning into black ice. It just wasn't worth slipping over (especially when running down the hill to get there) and risk making my hip injury worse, or breaking something else in the process!

Instead, I decided I would just go out later when I was happy the temperatures had warmed up, and the ice had gone. So as I was at a loose end first thing this morning, I went shopping with Dad

We went to The Range first, as he needed a couple of things for the house. I didn't need anything, so had a little wander around. The Range has all of its Christmas stuff out , but as its the end of November I'll let them off. There were a couple of nice little items amongst the sea of cheap tacky rubbish, but I didn't buy any new decorations...

I did pick a few other bits, such as a diary for next year (gotta try to keep organised!) and the then a toy and some treats for my Dads dog Lola (Dogs like to celebrate Christmas too apparently!

Once we had finished here, Dad and I went up to Morrisons, again just to ick up a few things. It wasn't a proper food shopping trip, but it enabled me to stock up on a few things (and more importantly would mean I wouldn't have to walk to local shops later this afternoon in the stormy conditions

Talking of which, by the time we had finished shopping, and I arrived back home, it was time to think about todays run.

I checked the weather forecast again

Yep, still heavy rain, and still strong winds.

I could have waited until 4pm for the weather to improve, but I knew that if I did that, I would make more excuses, and not run at all today... If I'm gonna go and get wet, I might as well go now and done with it!

The rain had eased off when I left my house, but within 5 minutes, the rain got heavier and heavier. I chose a simple out and back route, and I had an option to extend it if possible, as I wanted to run about 15km today.

I headed out along the bypass, making good pace of course with the wind behind me. At 5km I turned and headed back into the wind, and that was hard work indeed. I had on a running jacket (which is not waterproof) along with hat and gloves. Running back home into the rain was horrible, and I was soaked through and could feel the find blowing through me. By the time I'd arrived back into the village, all ideas of extending the run had disappeared, and I just headed straight home.

I had managed an hours worth of running, and just over 10km... that will do for today!

Arriving home, I immediately threw all my wet clothes into the washing machine... and then straight for a nice HOT shower. I'm now warm and toasty, the clothes are drying on the radiator, and now I can settle down to have some lunch

Lunch is the meal deal from Morrisons, featuring my first 'festive' sandwich the year

For the rest of the day I will be catching up on jobs. I've got ironing to do, and I think I'm gonna wrap some Xmas presents too. And then later on I'll be catching up with my partner via video call, and I can look forward to finding out how her uni projects are going.

I am hoping to go for another run tomorrow, but how long I go for will depend on the weather again. Yet more rain is forecast, but it shouldn't be as grimm as todays weather!

I think our local parkrun was on, but I was out elsewhere. I guess Xmas is coming soon, but we won't be buying lots more festive tat. We've had the same tree for years and tend to buy decorations when on holiday so they have some meaning for us.
