Long Run - 23km (felt a lot harder than it should've been!)

dannewton just finished a 23.57km run, that lasted for 151 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 1695.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
That really was hard work out there today... not really sure why either. The rest of the week I've been feeling fine and full of energy. I've also managed to sleep better than usual over the past 3 or 4 nights.

perhaps I've had too much sleep, my body's not used to getting the recommended 8 hours compared to the usual 5/6!

Whatever the reason, I sat around all morning, trying to find some inspiration, some motivation to get out and moving. I had no idea where to run today, and maybe that was the problem? In the end (ie after lunch)I managed to get my 'shit together' put my kit on and head outside

The weather was actually pretty reasonable for the time of year... on the chilly side at 3C, but it is the middle of Winter afterall.

I really need to fin some new places to run, I only seem to have 3 possible 'long run' routes, and I've done them so often that they are a little boring. If I want to keep running up to 30km's at a time then it will be easier if I'm not bored for the whole session lol.

The route I eventually went for is shown below.

After leaving my house, I ran the big loop... out along the bypass, and then turning left and heading down Canwick Hill into Lincoln.

I don't run down here to often so that made a change I guess...

After I get down the hill, I run past the Common, and then back up Cross O'Cliff hill back into the village. I had been running for almost an hour at this point, and the lack of motivation I had at the start of the session hadn't improved. I was still uninterested and tired and lethargic, just not feeling 'it' at all.

I was at around 9km at this point, and a bit of quick maths later I decided, that a quick 5km loop round the village, and then running the another big loop (in reverse) would add up to approx. 23km.

And so thats what I did. It wasn't pleasant, it wasn't pretty... it was still technically easy as it was mostly in zone 2 still, but it certainly wasn't enjoyable. I just needed to get it done

It was so unenjoyable, that I couldn't even be bothered to take many pictures either, so the above image of horses on South Common, is the only one you are getting this week!

The quick loop around the village done, I headed back down Cross O'Cliff Hill, back past the Horses, up Canwick hill and then eventually I arrived back home.

I dunno what was up with me today... I'm pleased I maanaged to get out and get something done, but I don't particularly want it to happen like that again.

I am hoping that this was just a one off, and that with a restful evening and an early night, I'll be in a better frame of mind for the run tomorrow evening. I said I'd been sleeping longer recently, perhaps thats my body's way of telling me I'm actually pretty tired right now

There is some good news though, I'm on holiday this week so I should have an opportunity for a break from work, and also opportunities to do something a little more interesting.

Tomorrow My partner and I are heading out to RSPB Frampton Marsh for a rare day out of birdwatching and wildlife photography... so fingers crossed the day out will help to 'recharge my batteries' or sort out whatever went wrong today, and of course I'll be hoping to share some of the pictures I take in due course :-)

And, er, on that note I guess I'm straight off to bed, Goodnight!

As you dropped in the 23kms I exclaimed out loud. But I already saw the red outline on the map so it was just confirmation, really.

And then some!

Tsk tsk, Dan. How lazy of you!! Shame on you! 😆

I reckon it's winter is all and our internal clocks run with daylight and temperatures. You'll be full of energy come spring time

p.s. your self discipline is remarkable!

Yep thats most likely what it was... we've already passed the winter solstice here, so days are (very slowly) getting longer 🌞

p.s. your self discipline is remarkable!

heh, more like dogged determination, but it mostly got the job done at least lol!

This weather is very beautiful when there are such dark clouds above the sky, walking is very enjoyable, it is very relaxing because of the cool air.

I hope you can find your motivation again. Variety in routes can help. I just run from home, but I could drive somewhere else. Do you listen to anything whilst running? I get through a lot of podcasts when I'm out.

Yep, i think this day was mostly a one off, the run the day after on Monday was much better.

Agreed I could do with more variety in routes, and I think I just need to be alittle more organised too.If I have a route already planned then I can just get up and go without thinking. I ended up wasting time stalling and procrastinating instead (which in turn wound me up as well).

Er nope, have tried running with music, i find it too distracting and end up turning it off... a shame really as passing the time with podcasts is a great idea!
