This run helped steevc burn 407.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
Last night I was out at a jam session. We have finally made it back to the White Horse, which is just up the road from me. This is where I first started a session some years ago. It has changed hands since the owners decided they would rather do food than have musicians in. The new people have redecorated and the back room that previously had a pool table and darts now has just chairs and tables. There were just five of us there this time, but I would expect more when we go back. It was a a fun evening, but having a couple of beers does not make for a great sleep before getting up to run.

I did run anyway. Today I was doing my usual hill sprints. They were not especially quick, but I did reclaim the Strava 'local legend' status for that segment. My hip was aching a bit, so I still have some recovering to do.

There is an old bookmakers (betting shop) near there that shut down ages ago. Now it has a sign in the window saying that it will soon be a Turkish barber! So we will have two of those in the village. I really wonder if there is enough demand for that service. We shall see how they do. I also noticed that someone up the road has a new electric VW camper van. That is a nice looking vehicle. I know that house had an electric car before as I do look out for them. I hope to have an EV soon.

It is not that I am nosy, but I happen to see what is going on as I run around the area.

It looks like they need a few volunteers for parkrun on Saturday, so I may be helping out again.

On Sunday I have organised a Hive meetup that involves a walk. The weather is not looking too promising, but I plan to go ahead with it in some form. If you want to know about blogging on a blockchain then get in touch.

Run free!

I've put in a request for one in 2 weeks. The barmaid enjoyed it.

Steve, there are so many barbers springing up all over the place. Same down my way. There is no way there is enough demand… I suspect something else at play, but far be it from me to speculate!

Could they be a front for something? My regular barber was dismissive of the Turkish ones saying they use pictures on their signs that are not of work they personally did. The one that is already done up is next to a kebab shop so it may be the same people running both. I am not aware of there being a lot of Turks around here. It could be a good thing to have more local businesses though and there will be lots of new houses here soon with potential customers.

Yeah, doesn't add up… but best of luck to them if there's a market and it's all legit! I've been surprised by the sheer volume but if they can all exist and turn a profit then good for them. I think it's quite an 'easy' set up and a lot of the barbers work freelance and pay for a chair as it were, so it might just fit the bill and is better than empty premises.

What makes a Turkish barber different from any other kind of barber? I seriously have never heard of that distinction before. Nice job on your run. I played 18 holes of disc golf last night. I still got up and did my workout this morning. Look at us all dedicated!

I've never been to a Turkish barber, so I don't know what it's actually like. I think they do particular methods of shaving, but I've never had anyone shave me.

Some are suspicious of this growing trend. Sources of that story are in the right-wing UK press, so should be treated with suspicion.

I've always wanted to get a shave with a straight razor. I'd have to go to someone I trust though. It's supposed to be the smoothest shave you can get.

The problem with shaves is that they do not stay smooth for long :)
