Lunch Run: Alley Cat
steevc just finished a 6.21km run, that lasted for 36 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 452.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
The mornings are getting chilly, but the sun was out and it had warmed up by lunch time. I was looking on Google Maps for places to run. It looked like there was a park up near the old town and I thought I would head up there. For those who do not know, Stevenage was the first 'new town' in the UK that was massively expanded with broad roads and roundabouts connecting residential areas and cycle paths everywhere. The old town still has lots of shops, but some have closed recently.
I had thought about doing some intervals, but my legs were still tired from the weekend, so I just went for a gentle run.
What I had not taken into account was the gradient. It was uphill all the way as I headed north with a climb of over 30m. It is not as flat as you might assume from driving around here.
I was sticking mostly to back streets and taking alleys as I found them. I found a small park up there, but I think most of the green space I could see on the map was school playing fields, so I could not run there.
I slightly lost my sense of direction, but I could estimate which way I was going from certain landmarks. On the way back I crossed my own track a few times, but tried to take alternative routes each time. I found my way back okay. At least it was mostly downhill on the second half.
I crossed the big footbridge by Tesco and then climbed the steps to the other one that runs through the station. Some people might thing it is odd to see a jogger there, but I am not bothered about that. I used the cycle ramps rather than the stairs so I could keep running.
I can only really take an hour for my break so 6km plus changing and showering is about all I can manage. Then I have lunch at my desk (tuna sandwiches today).
I need to make the most of this good weather. I did get rained on a couple of weeks ago, but it is not too bad as long as it is not cold and windy too.
Run free!

I used to walk some of those alleys and round about with my mum when she was in sheltered housing in the Old Town. Good chippy, and the Chinese wasn't bad either.
Nice guitar shop too of course. I've bought a few bits there including my Taylor.
