Morning Run: Vote!

We got back from our trip to Wales on Tuesday. I just did one run there, but also a lot of walking. Today was back to my usual route. I was in the office yesterday and there were issues with the trains on the way home. I ended up in a taxi with some other passengers that took us to our stop and was paid for by the train company. I may claim compensation for that as I was a lot later than planned.
It has been raining on and off, but was dry this morning. As I jogged up the road a child on the opposite pavement fell off their bike. I did check they were okay before continuing. The rest of the run was less dramatic. I just trotted along without pushing too hard. I was still feeling a bit tired from the weekend of walking and driving.
As well as being the US colonialist independence day it is a UK election. I do not get too political online, but this Conservative government has been a disaster with five Prime Ministers in 14 years and a long list of failure. They really need to go and it looks like they are bound for a wipeout. That is quite a turnaround from their big majority last time, but they brought it on themselves. Labour will benefit, but they have some work to do. We may even see a change of party in our constituency that has been Tory forever. I am tempted to stay up late to see the results come in.
I would always encourage people to vote. The main thing is to keep the extremists out and they depend on voter apathy as well as encouraging division. We all want the country in a better state and methods will vary, but demonising various groups is not helpful. You cannot blame all our ills on immigrants.

I will actually vote later as I didn't have my ID with me. I may go at lunchtime as it may be quieter than this evening. I am hoping people actually turn out as it was quiet this morning.

Many people fight and lose their life to get a democratic vote, we should use our vote wisely even if most of the parties aren't really worth voting for.
It will be very interesting to see the results this year though I think we all know what it's going to be, it's just a matter of by what margin
Exactly. Women fought for the vote here too. The voting system still means that your vote may not count for anything, but a lot of people may find it matters more this time as there will be changes. We shall see how it pans out tonight. I think there will be surprises and maybe shocks.
Career politicians are clueless about the real world, not much to choose between posh tory boys and posh socialist boys "call me dave" and "my dad was a tool maker" all cut from the same cloth. Vote raving loony party!
I might vote Binface if it were an option. I think it can be too much about personalities (or lack of), but we have to go with the least worst option.

A lot of Nigerians don’t like to go and cast their votes because it is usually bloody and there is no point losing your life for political parties or for government that does not even care about you
I would hope that voting does make a difference, but if the system is corrupt then you have problems. Politicians are people too, but they can get greedy.
To bad the voting system in the Anglo-Saxon countries are favouring few strong parties. Not only does first past the post give a unrepresentative mandate, it also forces moderates and the political fringe together in unholy marriages.
One thing I think we do better in Scandinavia is having parties for all the libertarian nutters, the moderates, the conservatives, the fascists, the tree-huggers etc.
Our FPTP has always favoured the two big parties, but perhaps things are shifting. They have had no incentive to change to any proportional system as they could mostly win outright or by collaborating with a smaller party.
There is no perfect system, but it has been frustrating to feel my vote would do nothing. This time it may be different. I will at least stay up for the exit polls, but I will be asleep before all the results come out.
Yes, times they are a-changing for sure. Sadly because the Tories has ruined everything it seems to me.
There were some Tories who seemed fairly decent (e.g. Rory Stewart), but they were driven out over Brexit orthodoxy.
Brexit was (and is) a craze of the really crazy sorts.

We have a Labour MP here now for first time I can remember. I see SNP did badly. Although they didn't get many seats the support for Reform is worrying. Labour need to show they can make a difference.
The reform thing is really bad. The rose of the far right it seems. I hope that having a left leaving government can decide them slightly with out the Tories constantly seeding division. Depends how they go tho.
SNP was a crushing disappointment f however I am hoping that it was a protest to get the Tories out. Sad times tho

We have our primary election coming up soon. I think our ballots should be in the mail. I took a nice walk this morning with my wife. It wasn't anything crazy as she took a fall yesterday and is still recovering from that.
Voting seems more important lately as various extremists are winning around the world. Some of them would happily take away our right to vote, but some will vote based on 'personality'.
I hope your wife is not feeling too rough.
Her arm looks pretty bad and her ankle is swollen. I think she might still head out for a round of disc golf with me tomorrow.

I actually voted later on when it was still quiet. The results were dramatic with a big swing to the left. I wasn't surprised given how bad the old lot were.
