Description from Strava:
We have been in Southsea again, so I had to fit in a run by the sea. We stayed at the old Queen's Hotel which has some charm and actually had a view of the sea so we could see the boats. The big war memorial has fencing around it as I think they are preparing for marking D-Day.

I just did a gentle jog today too stretch my legs. It is all fairly flat, but I did go up the steps onto the embankment around the castle. Some paths are still shit as they work in the sea defences. I have run here a few times so I see the progress.

There is an ornamental rock garden that I ran through. A fox appeared right in front of me and casually wandered off. Then a heron took off from the pond. I also saw some squirrels.

I kept going past the pier and a park before turn back. There is a boating lake in the park that has masses of swans. There are a series of parks and gardens that I could run through on the way back to keep away from the roads.

Yesterday was pretty warm. It was overcast today, but still not cold and so I got a good sweat on. I just had time for a shower before we went for a hearty breakfast. We had time for a wander around the local shops before getting our train home. We only just realised that we could get a railcard that gives us a discount when the two of us travel together. You have to pay for it, but we should easily save more. We have driven to Portsmouth a few times, but with roadworks over the weekend that might have been difficult. We quite like the train anyway.

Run free.

The D-Day landings in Normandy were in June 1943. A major event in the war. Portsmouth is still a big navy base.

Seems a bit deserted. I can imagine it gets quite busy in summer. I'm hoping to spend more time in the seaside this summer. Might even try to go for an extended 1 month stay somewhere and work from there.

It was busy yesterday, but this was fairly early on a Monday. We live a long way from the sea, so it's nice to get to the coast now and then.

I was going to ask if you even got to see the sea. They have those fences up blocking everything! Kind of lame!

I didn't dip my toes in this time, but I could see out to the Isle of Wight. Need to go there some time.
