19 days to marathon | vo2max training
Hi all,
Welcome back to my running blog. Here I keep you up to date with my training towards the NN Marathon Rotterdam 2025. If I successfully finished in april I would completed 4 marathons within one year - which is a lot more compared to the 2 marathon’s I normally aim for in a year. This journey (sofar) has been loads of fun and hard work!
With less than 3 weeks to go my taper phase started. This means that I am reducing my weekly distances while maintaining the same intensity of training. That way you stay in peak shape but allow your body to recover before the event!
My scheduled training was a focussed vo2max workout. Here you do a slow/normal pace and do multiple intervals of 600m where you aim to hold your 5k speed. This is one of the trainings I feel most difficult in the schedule - but that also means there is lots to gain from them! So this is something I consider doing more after Rotterdam in order to improve my speed for when I am targeting PR’s on shorter distances!
For now, the intervals went pretty well, I decided to give myself 400 meters active rest / jogging between the sets and that went pretty good.
After the interval session I continued a little further with an basic pace. I did notice at 8km that my blisters where hurting. Great time to run back carefully and do some after care.
Tomorrow’s scheduled run is a recovery run!
Happy running
