Description from Strava: @cycling Strava2hive An easy ride testing out some VESPA
I scored some sample Vespa satchels from @run.vince.run I am always interested in something that my assist my workouts as I need all the help I can get lol.
It was a great morning for a ride, weather wise and I have an extra day off work so it was the perfect opportunity to try something new. My legs were heavy from a leg weight training session yesterday so I thought I would just cruise down by the water front and enjoy the view. Our bay side suburbs are pretty good for cycling as they do not get a lot of the city rush hour traffic, it is more just like tourist traffic.
I did not read the Vespa instructions properly. I though it was like another energy gel. I was going to squeezed it all into my mouth and wash it down with water but I just added it to my water bottle and off I went. Vespa suggest drinking one satchel 30 minutes prior to exercise then one every two hours. I just sipped one satchel in 300ml of water on my ride. I was most interested in what it tasted like and how it sat in my stomach.
Previously I have used tailwind powder and Endura gels during long Iron Man training and events which got me through but I found it hard to get enough into me. I always was wondering if I could be doing things different or better.
The red Vespa concentrate tasted like raspberry honey but not as sweet as the other gels or electrolytes. I think I like the less sugar taste and hopefully it will train my body to burn more fat and maybe bonk less.
