shibuya at a friday night : November 29 2024
who would have thought that i would be here strolling in shibuya one friday night?
it is tgif indeed.
but what happened?
let me recall.
a friend had a birthday last monday, but the gang decided to celebrate this friday night instead.
not really something big, but at least have a cake to blow.
and since most restaurants do not really allow bringing in a cake from outside, we had to find a public place to do the ceremonial cake blowing.
and shibuya came to mind.
picture of the famous shibuya crossing before the scramble. there were many photographers on the sides in high pedestals, i wonder how many got my face in it.
i had no qualms about that, getting far away would probably mean more chances of walking; thus, more cardio.
plus, it has been a while since i met these bunch.
or was it?
we just met up last saturday for the mt fuji walkathon and here we are again.
but for a special occasion, i'm totally down with that.
walking through shibuya is very much a spectacle.
japan is also very much into the idol culture, and i think before kpop was a thing, jpop was already blooming.
this music store had posters lined up to the ceiling.
and this other picture was of a book shop, believe it or not.
and that poster of the down boobs was a cover of a book; the author was even there talking and promoting the book in a sit down event.
it was about unveiling, the cover even said it.
the cake blowing ceremony was held at a food court, we had to quite down to cause no commotion.
all of us knows how it is in japan, and we fully understood the briefing; the important thing was to celebrate and be together.
we toured the roof deck of that building after, and finally witnessed a skateboarder using the skate board park.
i have finally witnessed someone doing tricks on a park meant to do tricks.
i applaud her, hope she gets to compete in where she was planning to compete.
and because christmas was near, lights were everywhere.
the theme on this building was purple, forgive my colorblind eyes if i am wrong.
but i read it somewhere that they were on a purple theme.
walking down the streets of shibuya is tourist trap.
everything is so glamorous and bright, makes you happy and delighted, makes you wan to spend more money.
all i could do at the moment was take a picture of this louis vuitton display.
electricity is not a problem in these buildings, even the stairs become displays for ads.
if you enjoy getting blinded by shiny things, come to shibuya.
now, we were walking around to find this liquor shop that was inside a convenient store.
i saw this one time in tiktok and paid little attention to it, but the gang wanted to visit.
it was crowded, this is the power of tiktok.
we eventually decided to find a new place to drink.
we again criss crossed the busy streets, pushed our way into the jungle of shibuya.
we were now in the area with lots of drinking bars.
it was a friday night, the crowd were people coming from after work.
there were some shady things as well, like most other cities.
shady may not be the right term, let's try "joyful".
but most were just restaurants with different dishes from all over the world.
we eventually reached the drinking place.
and there were darts machines to use, too.
it has been a while playing darts, and rusty joints were getting more rusty.
i couldn't win in any of the matches.
but at least i had a prettt lame excuse, i forgot to wear my glasses tonight.
here are the evidence of how much liquor we can take.
but before you say something, these were pretty much watered down versions.
i make stronger drinks at home.
cheers!
as always, AMPING KANUNAY!
