In 1980 Benson participated on rhythm and blues and soul vocalist Minnie Riperton’s Love Lives Forever, and toured with her, and in Gotham City by legendary tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon, who translated the bebop language to his instrument. Benson reached his peak popularity with Give Me the Night (1980), produced by vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and record and film producer Quincy Jones.
