Morning Run - 10km (blowing a gale!)
dannewton just finished a 10.06km run, that lasted for 68 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 767.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
Yes, an actual morning run!
Not really a fan of these early mornings you know!
There was a reason today... namely the weather forecast:
Its grim out there today. If I finished work at 5pm and went for a run as usual, I'd have gotten absolutely soaked. I don't mind running in the rain, but if there is a way around it then I'll take it.
I also have other commitments these evening. I need to post a parcel at the post office, and as I'm working till 5pm today, that leaves me 3o minutes to dash up to the post office before it shuts at 5:30. I'm also talking to my partner this evening (a video call from her place at uni) so I'm gonna be tight for time to squeeze the run in.
And the run is important too!
This way I've got the run done, and will have time this evening to get all the other bits sorted as well without getting all stressed out.
So it was that at 7.30, I headed out for the run. The route was the out-and-back route to Harmston, just cos it's easy. I was still doing the low heart rate thing, and you can see below that I averaged between 136 and 144pbm which was perfect for Zone 2.
The pace is interesting though
I started it over averaging over 7 minutes per km, and finished closer to 6 minutes per km.
I'd like to say it was a planned progressive run, but the reality was that it was all down to the wind. A strong headwind on the way out, which resulted in a very nice tailwind blowing me home. It was an enjoyable run in the end, once I had woken up of course!
I also managed to get home just before the rain started, which was a massive plus. I managed to have time for a quick shower before logging in and starting work.
And now I've got the all important run out of the way, I can look forward to a pleasant evening catching up with my Partner and seeing how she has got on with her first few days at university

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

That's a good outing. I only tend to run that far at weekends. Do you think the heart rate thing is effective? There's so much different advice on how to train. For my level of running it's just about maintaining fitness really.

er... still early days yet to be fair. There is a LOT of anecdotal evidence from people who talk about the benefits of doing it. I'm not entirely sure how strict to keep it, but personally it has helped me slow down and make sure that my 'easy' runs are actually easy.
I think before this I'd be running at a pace that was too 'hard' and just because I was able to keep it up and increase the distance, it doesn't mean that the training at that speed/effort was effective. I'd often be able to feel the session in my legs the following day
By keeping it slow and easy I'm able to run more often and not feel tired out, so that when I do the parkrun (for example) I actually have plenty of energy to push hard. And on the day afterwards I'm already feeling recovered and ready to run again
The bit I am waiting for is that as the body becomes fitter and more efficient at those slow paces, I will be able to run faster while maintaining the same 'easy' pace. And I really do want to get faster. In the last year I've run longer and harder, but I've not managed to hold a pace faster than 6min/km for any length of time. This is something that will apparently take 6-12 months to see the benefit of, so I'm prepared to keep this going to see where it takes me.
Thats the biggest problem, everyone one appears to be an expert and tells you to run like them, but we are all an experiment of one, and we have to try and find what works best for us.
Something linked to the 'slow heart rate' is the 80/20 method (80% easy mileage and no more than 20% hard mileage) which I do think helps.
And at the end of the day it depends what you want to get out of it.

I was watching a few fitness videos last night. One thing I got was about recovery. I have tried doing push-ups every day, but it may be better to do alternate days so the muscles recover and actually improve. I do not run every day anyway.
My main goal is to improve my parkrun time, but it has slipped from my best lately. I do ponder doing a marathon, but that is so much training to build up the distance. I will see how it goes over the winter. My hip is still not quite right, but not too bad really.

Such a beautiful weather, whether it is cloudy or cold wind blows, then a person is more inclined to walk and a person also gets a lot of peace.
To walk for 10 minutes is my target, I am currently doing 3 km.
