Parkrun No. 6 - 14km (very, VERY wet!)
dannewton just finished a 14.79km run, that lasted for 123 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 1430.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
Its the weekend. Time for a long run, and time for a parkrun too! But before I get started, I just want to mention the weather conditions.
It was wet... very, VERY wet
The wasn't particularly hard, but it was consistent and persistent precipitation. Ordinarily I would wait until the weather eased off later before going our for a run, but 1) the rain was here all day, and 2) Parkrun starts at 9am.
So at 8:15 I had no option but to lace up my trainers and head outside
As I knew I was going to get soaked, I was duly prepared today. I had a waterproof coat with a hat, and I also wore the running trousers again, as it is quite chilly out there, especially when I'm walking sections of it.
nice weather for ducks at least!
I arrived at the meeting point at the bandstand at Boultham Park. Numbers looked far down on the 308 that turned up last week, not surprising due to the miserable weather we are having...
although it turned out I had just got there a little earlier then last time in the space of about 5 minutes there were a lot more people, to eventually end up with a respectable 217 people in the end.
As it was so wet, the briefing by the Run Director was really short, and we all headed over to the start line.
Once again I started at the back, to make sure I took it slowly... and I took it in turns to run for a bit and walk for a bit
I definately did more running and less walking this time around, and fact my legs felt really strong, the best they have felt since the injury 3 months ago. I only walked for a bit out of habit more than anything, and I'm still so nervous about the injury recurring. I probably could have run the whole 5km today.
In fact, if I feel this good next week, then I think I probably will
One thing I did struggle with this time was actual fitness levels... its the furthest and fastest I've ran in 3 months, and it showed! Lots of huffing and puffing my the end of it!
After finishing and getting my token and my race number scanned, it was time to head for home
The rain may have been annoying, but it was at least a chance to test out some kit. At the start of this year I bought a selection of items to be used as part of running longer distances with my running vest. While I had used some the items, there were some others that hadn't been required.
Today was an opportunity to use the green waterproof bag for the phone, which worked really well and I was able to check it in the pouring rain and take photos
I was also able to use the dry bag for the first time. It is designed to be completely waterproof so that important items can stay dry. This can be for spare clothes/socks/hat if I was on a much longer run. Today my dry bag only had a wallet and a first aid kit, but that was enough just to test it.
for any long run over 15km or 2 hours I always have a first aid kit with me, partly as its mandatory kit for any long trail races, so I might as well get used to carrying it. But it is also piece of mind in case something goes wrong. I don't expect to ever use it... but better safe than sorry eh?
When I arrived home, I checked the items and they were bone dry as expected, so thats another thing ticked off.
And I also received my results from the park run:
So another productive run completed, and another step further forward on the road to recovery
For the rest of the day I'm gonna stay inside (I've seen enough of the rain today!) I've got some washing and ironing to do along with some more of my accountancy course
but first on my to do list is to get lunch!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

I also wear waterproof coat so that I will not get wet whenever I'm going out during the rainy season
I see that you are having a nice day
Well done. Ours was wet too, but parkrunners are hardy. I was lucky to get a lift home, but I couldn't have got any wetter. Not so bad when you have a warm shower to come home to.
!BEER
I was surprised to see so many people out to be honest, but like you say its easy to do it if you know it is only a short while and you can get warmed up soon.
next weeks forecast looks to be a little better 🌞

After the rain everything becomes very beautiful as we see in the pictures, cool air, natural views, one gets a lot of peace in such a place.
I know the feeling..
It surely was wet yesterday!
utterly miserable wasn't it!
I'm sure it will warm up in a few weeks, and then we can complain that it's too hot again!
