Weekend Long Run - 25km (longest run ever, plus strava problems)
dannewton just finished a 25.0km run, that lasted for 150 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 2549.5 calories.
Description from Strava: So I know that nothing works all the time... things break or get disconnected (or lose signal or whatever), and I have seen errors when some of my friends upload runs to strava. But that has never happened to me...
guess there is a first time for everything eh?
So I set off for a long run earlier today. I've completed the half-marathon distance 5 times in the last 6 weekends, so I figured it was high time I increased the distance again. Nothing complicated, I was going to do the route I have done several times recently for 22km, and then tag a 3km loop on the end
Nice and easy.
Everything started ok. I headed down the hill, on to Tritton Road, and then nipped past the Brayford on to Monks Road. And then at the top of Monks road the glitch happened. No idea what caused it, and no idea it had actually happened until I checked my phone near the end of the run (on the little loop around the village).
The app had apparently closed itself down, and when I reopened it, there was a message saying it had 'recovered the session'... but it was missing about 9km worth of data.
Very very frustrating. To be fair it is the first time there has been a problem out of the 180 runs I have recorded by the strava app.
But still frustrating nontheless!
Its also a stark reminder of how reliant we are on technology. This post would have appeared a few minutes after completing the session. Instead, I had to fire up the laptop and manually create the map (and work out the distance too). And then create a manual activity, and add a screenshot of the google map as 'proof'.
Other than all of that kerfuffle, I enjoyed the session. I'm not entirely sure one the actual pace, but my stopwatch said 02hrs 28:22, which results in an average pace of just under 6min/km, which is pretty decent for such a long run.
Besides, it is the furthest distance I have ever run, which is something to be happy with (even if I don't have the strava record to prove it). I'll be doing something similar next weekend, hopefully next time it'll work eh?

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

Congratulations on your longest run, So your using strava on your phone to record, I have been using gps watch for what feels like for ever, am bit addicted to glancing at the stats mid run
Thank you :-) I was pretty chuffed with it to be fair.
And yes in comparison with some people I have a very basic set-up lol. It was ok to begin with when running 5k/30 mins. I think its time for an upgrade... not just for the wealth of stats, but also because carrying a phone around is awkward/distracting.
It's easy to get obsessed with the stats and when the tech goes wrong it's frustrating. I used to use Endomondo on my phone and it would sometimes show some crazy speeds. My Garmin watch with Strava has been very reliable.
25km is a great achievement. That is about as far as I have ever run. How was the weather? It's been wet here lately.

It was very frustrating. I used to be part of some running groups on facebook, and saw was Garmin, guess its high time I checked it out and see what options are out there.
(also don't want to keep carrying my phone around, particularly on long runs where there is a risk of accidents or lots of rain...)
Weather-wise its definitely feeling autumnal. Still feels warm when the sun shines, but much more rain around. On sunday I was lucky to get round in the dry, the heavens opened soon after
Thank you! We spoke (or someone here spoke recently) about how doing speedwork sessions gave us the confidence to run faster in normal sessions.
I think confidence is also required to tackle the much longer runs... confidence that our bodies can 'handle it' and the confidence to keeping trying to push further and longer over time.

I use garmin devices for everything and sync it to other services.dont really have any problems so far.i use vivoactive 4 for ODOmeter and running/hiking,garmin edge 830 for outdoor, and i pair my garmin vector 3 powermeter pedals,HR strap and indoor trainer to a laptop via ANT+ dongle...i am also obssesed with stat tracing
crikey... thats a very in-depth set up! 😉
I don't think I quite need that much, especially as I suspect that if I have all of that that data to look at, then I will spend more time looking at numbers instead of actually training lol
But yes, I do need to up my game. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll go check them out

Yeah....i like to sync multiple apps.each one shows me something different.i used to look at apps a lot but i stopped,i check them really rarely now
Wow, to run 25km again, seems so far away for me now... I'm at 10+km again though after 2 weeks of training...

Thanks, and yes I've noticed you are getting back into training again. I'm surprised you have increased the distance so quickly to be honest.
Good to see you are on the mend, but pace your self yeah? 😉

Ah and about the kilometers, I need to build up volume quickly if I wnat to make something from the winter season. I can do it because I've been doing strength and stretching excercises for two months and I didn't stop cycling and swimming, so something there's still left.... !LUV

Sorry, 'on the mend' in this instance means 'recovering' or 'feeling better'
That's fair enough, you know your own body best, and I know you have kept up training in other areas such as cycling. Good luck for the winter training :-)
