Description from Strava: Here we go again...
Its time for the 'Long Run' of the weekend again. I didn't do this last week, as I had other plans, so it didn't quite fit. Today however, I've had all the time in the world so I can get back to 'normal' as it were.
First things first, I did need to post a parcel for my partner this morning, something that was needed for one of her projects. The Post Office is only a 15 minute walk in the centre of the village, and besides, it was raining anyway so I wouldn't have started running yet.
It was almost 11AM by the time the rain stopped, and without further ado I headed out to begin the session. I had thought about trying a new route, but I took to long trying to work something out and in the end, I went for the standard route that I have done a few time recently...
down the hill, out onto Tritton Road, past the University, up and along past the Hospital before reaching the bypass and heading home
The idea of these long runs is about completing the distance required, the idea is not to push hard on pace. That being said, about 30 minutes into the run I got the feeling that I my pace was quicker than I would usually do. That feeling was based purely on the sensation, on how I could feel my body moving.
I contemplated slowing it back down, but honestly, the pace still felt comfortable.... and by all accounts it was quite a pleasant run out today.
well, except for the traffic!
Two-thirds of the route involve running through the center of town. This means crossing lots of roads, and having to wait for the lights to change in my favour. Its usually hit and miss where I get stopped, but I swear today I had to stop for a few minutes to cross every flippin' road.
very frustrating!
Fortunately a quirk of the way strava records the run is that if you stop moving completely, the app realises (due to no GPS movement) and pauses the recording of the session. This means it only counts the moving time, and apparently I was moving pretty quickly as I managed to set a new Personal Best over the Half-marathon distance
See the below image for a comparison of times for each of the 4 attempts that I have run this route...
...the important number here is the average pace (minutes per km). Its all very well finishing strongly at the end of a run, but to get any noticeable improvement in time I will need to run at a quicker pace more consistently over the whole session
bring on the next one!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

You're doing great on these long runs. I know how hard it is :) It's also a big time commitment to go out for a couple of hours running. The weather is just a bit mixed right now.
