Reseña del torneo semanal de Chess Brothers: "Dominante"

La tercera temporada está llegando a su final. El pasado domingo tuvimos la ronda número 7, lo cual nos deja a un solo enfrentamiento de culminar en buena lid la temporada "Sacrificio maestro". Esta ronda estuvo bastante concentrada, pues 18 jugadores dijeron presente, una cifra que discrepa con respecto a las válidas anteriores en términos de participación, pero hablando en términos de ranking se situó entre una de las más fuertes que se han jugado. Veamos el standing final.

Standing de la 7a ronda en Lichess

El ritmo de juego en esta ronda fue de 4+1 siendo así un torneo de blitz bastante frenético, pues a pesar de tener un segundo de incremento la verdad es que el tiempo de reflexión es bastante reducido. Pues bien, @kintokris fue el más rápido en esta ocasión y logró imponerse contundentemente y sin perder ninguna partida. Parece que al jugador de Nigeria le sienta bastante bien estas modalidades relámpago, pues en ocasiones anteriores lo hemos visto obtener buenos resultados en dichas modalidades.

Fue escoltado por @eniolw y el recien llegado @jesusmgl1995 quien sigue sorprendiendo con buenos resultados. En la cuarta posición, el actual doble campeón de la liga, @tungphong, y en la quinta posición, @emic.

Podemos ver que, a falta de una ronda para terminar, @eniolw se ha distanciado del segundo lugar, @lucianosky, por 6 puntos. A su vez, @samostically, quien estuvo coliderando la liga hasta la semana pasada, cayó 1 posición, pero sigue en una situación cómoda de cara a los primeros lugares. @jesusmgl1995 continúa su escalada kilométrica, está vez ascendiendo 8 posiciones. ¿Logrará entrar al top 10? Ya veremos.

Analicemos algunas partidas jugadas en esta válida

En la siguiente partida el campeón del evento enfrentó a @samostically, un duelo entre "paisanos", pero esto no significó nada de piedad en el tablero. Las negras emplearon la muy controversial Defensa escandinava que desarrolla muy prematuramente la dama, siendo esto una dudosa decisión en la apertura. No obstante, las negras en lugar de ello, se desvían de las líneas principales y emplean un desarrollo de caballo para recapturar el peón en d5. Muy pronto alcanzaron esta posición:

Como vemos, el segundo jugador se hizo con un juego bastante dinámico y logró desarrollar todo su ejercito bastante rápido. Las blancas al parecer no obtuvieron suficiente iniciativa y se quedaron con una situación peor. Esta pasividad de las blancas les costó muchísimos tiempos y las negras simplemente dominaron el tablero durante toda la partida. En el diagrama se aprecia cómo el sector del flanco dama está totalmente dominado por @kintokris, como si las casillas blancas estuvieran en llamas, cosa que el segundo jugador aprovechó estratégicamente al máximo.

El remate es simplemente espectacular. Tras haber fiscalizado una ventaja posicional, las negras dan punto final con una secuencia táctica muy bonita. Mira la partida por ti mismo, cortesía de Lichess:

Veamos otro caso. En esta partida entre @pereu4ivatel y @deadleaf, las blancas "abusaron" de su expansión en la apertura. Ciertamente jugaron muy agresivamente en esta variante de la Caro Kann, pero al final terminaron transponiendo a estructuras de la Defensa francesa, en la cual las negras han podido cambiar el alfil malo de casillas blancas y además han realizado con éxito la ruptura en c5, como se evidencia en esta posición:

Para las blancas es un tanto complicado sostener este centro y en su desesperada búsqueda de lograr ventaja sacrifican una pieza en g6 para desestabilizar la situación del rey negro, cosa que @deadleaf51 acepta sin dudarlo y refuta en pocas jugadas el sacrificio dudoso que parece intimidante, pero las cosas no pasaron a mayores, pues con el cálculo preciso el ataque fue rápidamente neutralizado. Finalmente, los fuegos artificiales no podían faltar en esta ronda. Este legendario match entre @tungphong y @lucianosky es el vivo ejemplo de la competitividad de la liga. Estos ajedrecistas han tenido más de un encuentro en el que han hecho agitar el tablero. En la partida ambos bandos lucharon por la iniciativa y el desenlace es un tanto dramático. Chess Brothers Weekly Tournament Review: "Dominant"

The third season is coming to an end. Last Sunday we had round number 7, which leaves us only one match to finish the season "Master Sacrifice". This round was quite concentrated, as 18 players were present, a figure that differs from previous rounds in terms of participation, but in terms of ranking it was one of the strongest that have been played. Let's see the final standings.

The time control in this round was 4+1 being a quite frantic blitz tournament, because despite having a one second increment, the truth is that the reflection time is quite short. Well, @kintokris was the fastest on this occasion and managed to win convincingly and without losing any game. It seems that the Nigerian player is quite well suited to these lightning modes, as on previous occasions we have seen him get good results in these modalities.

He was escorted by @eniolw and newcomer @jesusmgl1995 who continues to surprise with good results. In the fourth position, the current double champion of the league, @tungphong, and in the fifth position, @emic.

We can see that, with one round to go, @eniolw has distanced himself from second place, @lucianosky, by 6 points. In turn, @samostically, who was co-leading the league until last week, dropped 1 place, but is still in a comfortable position for the top spots. @jesusmgl1995 continues his mile-long climb, this time up 8 positions. Will he make it into the top 10? We'll see.

Let's analyze some games played in this round

In the next game the champion of the event faced @samostically, a duel between "countrymen", but this meant no mercy at the board. Black employed the very controversial Scandinavian Defense that very prematurely develops the queen, this being a dubious decision in the opening. However, Black instead deviated from the main lines and employed a knight development to recapture the pawn on d5. They soon reached this position:

As we can see, the second player had a quite dynamic game and managed to develop his whole army quite fast. White apparently did not get enough initiative and was left with a worse situation. White's passivity cost him a lot of tempi and Black simply dominated the board during the whole game. In the diagram you can see how the queenside sector is totally dominated by @kintokris, as if the white squares were on fire, something that the second player strategically took full advantage of.

The ending is simply spectacular. After having secured a positional advantage, Black brings the game to an end with a very nice tactical sequence. See the game for yourself, courtesy of Lichess:

Let's look at another case. In this game between @pereu4ivatel and @deadleaf, White "abused" his expansion in the opening. They certainly played very aggressively in this variation of the Caro Kann, but in the end they ended up transposing to structures of the French Defense, in which Black has been able to exchange the bad bishop on white squares and also successfully made the break on c5, as evidenced in this position:

For White it is somewhat complicated to hold this center and in his desperate search for an advantage he sacrifices a piece on g6 to destabilize the situation of the black king, which @deadleaf51 accepts without hesitation and refutes in a few moves the dubious sacrifice that seems intimidating, but things did not go too far, because with the precise calculation the attack was quickly neutralized. Finally, the fireworks could not be missing in this round. This legendary match between @tungphong and @lucianosky is the living example of the competitiveness of the league. These chess players have had more than one encounter in which they have shaken up the board. In the game both sides fought for the initiative and the outcome is somewhat dramatic. I was so pissed off by the pairing that day. The tournament was too strong for my taste. Try to attract also less strong players!

Thanks for the suggestion. We have invited a lot of players, indeed. We're constantly promoting the tournament in this weekly review besides the weekly reminder and the polls. Sometimes we carry out special initiatives to attract people. You also have advertised our tournaments in your posts (thank you, btw!). We're also implementing the Lighteye scoring system (which is inclusive) and intend to award all the Hivers who have a participation ratio of 50% minimum. We also have special prizes that lower rated players can play for, like the greatest upset, the beauty prize, the best post, etc.

So, we've done many things... and many players have joined! Some of them seem to be part of the stronger group. Perhaps we can run tournaments by sections (Do you remember that idea?) and somehow increase the reward pool :)
