TRAVELFEED WEEKLY ROUND-UP #78 - Win 100 Steem And Important Updates v1.3
Travelers near and far, it was just last week that we pushed out a huge batch of improvements and bug fixes to TravelFeed, but we’re keeping the ball rolling ... and have some more exciting news to share with you today!
Win 100 Steem
But first things first. You're probably mostly excited to hear about how you can win a whopping 100 Steem. One of our investors @invisusmundi decided to give TravelFeed a push and set up this amazing contest. You have until August 27th to participate.
New Record Delegations To Us
When the TF Team woke up this morning, we couldn't believe our eyes! One of our previous investors amped up his delegation to an unbelievable 90K in Steem Power. Thank you so much to @oldtimer, for believing in our project. And of course we're grateful for anyone one else who supports us. We wouldn't be able to do it without you guys. We have now over 117k in Voting Power!
Amazing New Updates To TravelFeed
Below you can read about all the new changes but if you want to see the updates right away, go check them out on TravelFeed.io
New Profile
This week, our main focus was on giving you a profile page you’ll want to show off. Head over now to check out yours. Right under your profile image and bio you'll now find a row of social media icons, assuming you filled out social media info under your settings.
New Maps
Then you might notice a row of three tabs where you can also toggle to your personal map, showing off all locations of your posts submitted through our platform. And while talking about Maps, the TravelFeed map now has a search option (upper left hand side) which returns results from the entire TravelFeed database by using the discover map, or just your locations via the personal map on your profile. Now you can also click on each map cluster and it will open all featured articles with thumbnails and links of that specific location.
Another cool new feature for your profile is that when you submit an article of a country you haven't visited, the country color will turn into turquoise, basically working like a scratch-off map.
Bragging Right Badges
And now you can use your TravelFeed.io Profil to show off your travels. We’ll reward you with badges of specific achievements, regions you’ve visited, and country flags you’ve collected. And keep an eye on new badges we’ll be implementing from time to time. If you have any fun badge ideas, please leave a comment.
As you can see we're really pushing forward but we need your feedback to do so, so please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.
Coming Up
In the upcoming week, we're going to work on onboarding new users, which will introduce an easy and fast way to sign up through us to obtain a Steem account. Keep in mind that we're focusing mainly on new possible users who haven't been dealing with anything related to Cryptocurrency or Blockchain.
And starting tomorrow we will upvote good and thoughtful comments made on articles on Travelfeed.io, if our total VP is up to 100, so we don't waste any valuable voting power. Please keep in mind that we're only considering comments which have been posted through our dApp. So come and login to TravelFeed.io and check out some travel articles and leave interesting comments.

How to Get Involved?
And another thing you should know -- if you're using our TravelFeed.io you can earn additional bonus upvotes (vs just adding the tag). And using our platform will become even more important once we release our own tokens.
We invite anyone who’s interested in travel to check out our TravelFeed dApp and to join our over 800-strong community on Discord. We’re also looking for one more curator to join our team.
We ❤️ Open Source
We are proud to make TravelFeed available fully Open-Source, and support other communities on Steem who want to build on our code. Our code is on Github. We’re still looking for contributors who want to work with us on the future of TravelFeed.
We’re still in Beta and continuously improving the software. This means that there are still some bugs. If you notice anything or have feedback for us, please don’t hesitate to contact us on our Discord, leave a comment or open a bug report on our Github!
Delegate Now!
During our launch, we plan on rewarding past, current and future TravelFeed users by airdropping tokens. This will also incentivise authoring posts through TravelFeed instead of through third-party dApps using the tag #travelfeed.
We are in the process of registering a company and establishing the legal fundaments of a token offering, so officially, we cannot make any legally binding offers now, so while we officially can not offer compensation yet, all past, current and future delegators will be fairly compensated for their delegation with tokens once out token has launched. The airdrop will be based on the amount of SteemPower delegated and your share of the total delegations for each day delegated. This means an advantage for early investors delegating now while our total delegations amount to only 34k SP, a number that we expect to be much higher in the near future. Our Steem Power is fully used for curation of the best TravelFeed posts.
To delegate to @travelfeed, feel free to use the following links accordingly to the amount you would like to delegate:
100 SP | 250 SP | 500 SP | 1000 SP | 2500 SP | 5000 SP | 10000 SP | 15000 SP | 25000 SP | 50000 SP

From first looks, Bruges reminded me of Amsterdam where the houses are alike. Old, historical and with very different architectural styles next to each other. I like this variety in different architectural styles. And also Bruges has canals like Amsterdam. Look at the beautiful old architectural styles…

Not having any time to spare (I planned to visit 3 places in Chiang Rai), I used the Grab app and booked a ride to the white temple (at a cost of $200 TBH) immediately after stepping off the bus because I didn't have time to mess around with the tuk tuk drivers or songthaew drivers. They are all at the back of the terminal, I didn't see any at the front, it'll probably be cheaper (highly dependent on your negotiating skills) to go via tuk tuk and songthaew.

After the selfie I continued the descend down to catch up with my friends. It was getting a bit hot and my right calf felt a little itchy. I thought it was the heat and thought nothing of it until I felt a little ping. I pulled up my trousers leg and saw a black speck on my front calf. It was a leech gnawing into me!!!!!

Posting my comment through TF.io and thinking how beautiful and clean the page's layout is. Now, the badges add a lot of excitement, maybe we'll start a "catch the badge challenge" haha
Yes, we will set up some challenges with some juicy prices in the future.

Need to investigate 🤠
Ha! What are you thoughts after investigating?
I like where things are headed... I was expecting a different UI... but still need to spend more time to get a feel. Maybe add one spot I know in NZ to go through the experience. And I find anything nice to have,I will let you know.
Now sleep 😴 time. Cheers

We're curious to hear who you would have expected the UI
ok... I have did it... posted a place I know very well. I am not much of a writer, so this will be somehow not professional, but somehow user based review kind of thing.
In regards to your UI, I don't dislike it, but when I say that I was expecting something else, I was referring to the way you onboard a user to make the sort of the first/second post. We all know what the API provides and what makes sense to use to interact with the blockchain. But for people that never used Steemit.com the challenge of making this something they don't need to compare with it, becomes amazingly powerful.
I am going to throw a recent example that "economically" might not have much difference from what everyone sees on the regular curation posts, but gave me that initially UAu! of presenting itself as a "different thing", making it's point: Tasteem!
Another example, but in a completely different scenario is SteemHunt... They both have their unique designs and strategic target choices to enhance their unique features.
You guys, are some kind of amazing open source "trip advisor". They have their unique design... what would you guys do to win all customers of Trip Advisor? See where I am going? That's where you guys should go... AIM there!!! Please! This tech has so much potential.... than what enterprises are still exploring under the normal STUPID and overrated/overpriced "cloud" world... I know it... 15 years on IT/Infrastructures told me something.
To finalize... Thanks! Thanks for bringing to STEEM another good use case of what Blockchain tech can do. It's our job to show the world that decentralization has it's benefits. We are all pioneers, reviewers, strategists, influencers, followers, but we all play an important role on whatever many may call to these networks.
Cheers
Thanks for your feedback!
Right now we are in early Beta for Steem users and don't offer onboarding, but we are working on releasing our onboard feature next week offering convenient email-signups. Our aim is to onboard travellers who have never used Steem or cryptos before.
We don't see our platform as similar to Steemit, maybe it seems like it because both platforms are focussed on long content unlike e.g. Steemhunt? We offer many distinct travel-oriented features already (maps, location search, profile badges) and will be releasing many more in the coming months. When you login, our Dashboard is also totally different from Steemit, more comparable to Wordpress probably.
We are often compared to it, but we do not aim to become the next Tripadvisor - a lot of Steem projects want to become "that super popular platform but on a Blockchain" and are not exactly successful with that attempt, it's not easy to match an established product by a multi-billion-dollar company as a startup when there is no innovation besides using a Blockchain ;) We, on the other hand, are building a platform for independent travellers - a platform for a not-so-small niche that is currently lacking and that we have often wished to use ourselves. Tripadvisor is about finding the most popular sights/restaurants/hotels, great if you are on a short vacation or want to brag to your friends and followers about visiting well-known places. TravelFeed is about finding travel experiences off-the-beaten track and a community of likeminded travellers. Many of our users are long-term travellers or digital nomads, but there are many short-term travellers as well who are keen to experience more than just the usual tourist places when travelling. Right now the best way to do that is to search Google for hours to find well-hidden tips on small travel blogs, we are changing that by providing a central platform for discovering the best travel blog posts. We will be offering users who like having their own blog to have their blog hosted through us for free and accessible through their own domain or subdomain with several templates to choose from, their posts are then accessible both through their blog and through TravelFeed. We are expecting that many (small) travel bloggers who make almost no revenues, get little interaction and pay for hosting of their blog will switch over to TravelFeed.
Right now our sorting algorithm is fairly simple, but in the future, the most relevant posts will be suggested for each user, e.g. if someone follows the topics urbex and hitchhiking, posts about these topics will rank higher when searching for "Albania".
The second aspect of our platform is the community, maybe comparable a little bit to the Tripadvisor forums, some Facebook groups or Couchsurfing. With the community features that we are working on, on TravelFeed, you will be able to easily get in touch with the authors of your favourite posts and with travellers who are in the same area or have similar interests, great for finding travel buddies.
You see that we have a huge roadmap, and no intention to become anything similar to Tripadvisor or Steemit :D
Now makes more sense. Great stuff. And I completely understand the positioning here. Wish you guys good luck and keep the motivation. I will be following the project and will shed light whenever I can. Let me know if there's any stuff I can help with.

If you like what @ocd does, consider voting for ocd-witness through SteemConnect or on the Steemit Witnesses page. :)
Fix voting with keychain on the @travelfeed site.
api.steemit.com which is the default node in Keychain is having issues right now, if you open Keychain and go to Preferences -> Select an RPC node and change it to https://anyx.io, voting should work
When I want to upvote it opens steemconnect instead of keychain.
Thanks for reporting this! The issue is that, as some other dApps, we are using steemconnect-js, which saves us a lot of time developing. Steemconnect-js provides one function for login/vote/comment/... and depending on if and which browser extensions you have installed, steemconnect-js automatically chooses steemconnect.com, Keychain or the Steemconnect browser extension. The problem is, that if you have both extensions installed, steemconnect-js forces the use of Steemconnect instead of Keychain, assuming that users who have both extensions installed prefer Steemconnect.
So, basically, we have three options to change this:
1.) We remove the Keychain login button for users who have the Steemconnect extension installed. This is the easiest solution and wouldn't change the current behaviour, but avoids confusion. Steemconnect offers the same functionality as Keychchain, so functionality would not be affected.
2.) We fork Steem Keychain and force using Steem Keychain over Steemconnect if both are installed. This would not involve much work, but mean reoccurring work to keep up with updates of steemconnect-js.
3.) We manually implement Keychcain functions instead of using steemconnect-js and trigger either Keychain or Steemconnect depending on which button the user clicked to log in. This would be the best solution, but involve quite some work holding us back from working on new features while benefiting only a small number of users who have both extensions installed.
We are currently considering all three options, which one would you prefer?
Keychain is the safest and easiest way. I always use keychain. It also has more features.
