Basketball is a team sport in which two teams opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball through the defender's hoop while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop.

The history of basketball in Nigeria dates back to the late 1950's. D’Tigers in Nigeria is the name of the senior male national team while the female team is called D’Tigress.
In 2015, Nigeria got the first award as the basketball champion of the whole Africa continent.
