Fifth Day of Christmas and Five Golden Rings

On the fifth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Five Golden Rings
Four Calling Birds
Three French Hens
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree

Look close. There are five “golden” rings on the ornaments. Yesterday I told you that it was my favorite of the verses. I like the pause on Gol-den and it seems to me that we always sang that part the loudest!

“Five Golden Rings” represents the first five books of the Bible, also called the Jewish Torah: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

There are so many different versions as to the “truth” behind the song. Here is one of them: Catholics in England during the period 1558 to 1829 were prohibited by law to practice their faith either in public or private. It was illegal to be Catholic until Parliament finally emancipated Catholics in England in 1829."The Twelve Days of Christmas" was written in England as one of the "catechism songs" to help young Catholics learn the basics of their faith. In short, it was a coded-message, a memory aid. Since the song sounded like rhyming nonsense, young Catholics could sing the song without fear of imprisonment. The authorities would not know that it was a religious song."The 12 Days of Christmas" is in a sense an allegory. Each of the items in the song represents something significant to the teachings of the Catholic faith. The hidden meaning of each gift was designed to help Catholic children learn their faith. The better-acquainted one is with the Bible, the more these interpretations have significance. source

Can you hear it? It’s almost that time of year again. I can feel it coming on. How many of you are ready to be one of the roughly 60% of people that impose a New Year Resolution? Only 8% of you will actually push through and complete it. I stopped making them, long ago and far away, although I am told that making them is a great idea and actually pegs the happiness meter.

For me, I found that change should be implemented when I think of it instead of postponing the date, waiting for the New Year to begin. There is no time like the present – but that is for me. I find inch by inch, I can move towards a bigger goal, much easier to implement into my life. Those small annoying issues, I heard they were called the Pigeons of Discontent. Of course, that made me laugh. I loved that term. So, tell me, tell me, tell me do… What does it for you? Resolutions or not? Tell me true.

Can you believe that Marian just sang this song for me and that I do not know it? Might have heard it briefly, but no recollection when or where.

Oh, there are so many truths in all these kids songs, it is hard to separate truth from fiction. I will address that later in the week. :)

Oh I didn't mean us, when I said room for improvement. I meant the society. We need to be more kind towards the planet and animals. Also, there is still lots of crime, homelessness and poverty. So we have long way to go. Anyway, didn't mean to make you sad.

And we are friends for a very long time my Dear Denise, so the feeling is mutual. I am here because of you and Judith. To bad she is not active anymore. I just see her pop up on FB sometimes. I do miss her.

I don't make New Year's resolutions. Well, I already said why in the text. I suppose if I thought it would do something, why not start that day, instead of waiting until New Year's Eve?
