The Two Largest Trees In The World
No, they're not in Texas, surprisingly. lol.
Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas!
I think I was at the Sequoia National Forest in California when I was a little kid but I was too little to remember much but my, would I love to go there now! I can only imagine being in the presence of these magnificent trees.
The largest one, and the largest in the world, is named General Sherman and stands 274.9 feet (83.8 meters) tall but is a youngster at just 2,000 years old. Lol.
Many of the Redwoods are over 3,200 years old. I'm sure that means General Sherman still growing though!
General Sherman:
This group of visitors gives you and idea of the size of General Sherman's size:
And check this out: a branch broke off in a storm in 2006 and crushed a section of fence and created a big hole in the walkway. The branch is as big as a whole tree!
The General contains 52,500 cubic feet (1,487 cubic meters) in volume. It has giant branches too but they don't take the branch sizes into consideration when measuring volume, just the trunk.
The 2nd largest tree on earth is in the same park and is named The President and stands at 247 feet (75 m) and measures 27 ft (8.2 m) in diameter at the base. They estimate it to be 3,200 years old!
Here's a good size gauger:
Look at this climbing team hanging from the branches!
And look at how tiny they look in this great photo:
Those three climbers are hard to spot in this one, can you find them? It makes one realize what specks we are on this earth compared to much of nature.
I bet you can just feel the energy of those magnificent trees when you're in that forest.
Thanks for stopping by folks, God bless you all!

Texas
I saw the sequoias when I was a kid and sadly can't really remember them. I do have a few pictures from the family trip that proves I was there though!! haha
Howdy sir simms50! I think it would be a wonderful trip to take, especially in the fall or winter, at least for me. There's just nothing like that forest in the whole world.

Howdy esteemapp and thanks so much for the upvote!
You know I have always wondered, if the age of a tree is measured by counting its rings, how do they know the age of a tree that is still standing?
Howdy sir gduran! That's a great question. In a forest full of similar trees it's fairly accurate to estimate age by counting the rings on fallen or dead trees of the same species and that's what they do on the Sequoias. From fallen trees they have a good idea of the growth rate so they can estimate that by measuring the size.
Thanks so much for reading and commenting!
I've been to see the sequoias. It was lovely. Yesterday I was in a local state park and stumbled along "Old Methulsalah", which is a five hundred year old cypress. Impressive, but certainly not on the same scale.
Howdy ginnyannette! I've heard that the cypress trees were sometimes big and ancient as well. 500 years ago Florida was a very different animal!
It certainly was. Hard to imagine unless you are standing in the middle of a swamp.
Very true but it's all for the better right? Especially the Northerners? lol.
Wow, no words! It looks soo impressive! It worth to travel the world just to see it!
You are the lucky one!

Howdy zirochka! I'm sure you have some big trees over there too but I don't think anyone has trees THIS big. I hope things are going well with you, I'm heading over to your blog soon!
Hello today, Janyon! You seems to know me good )) Of course, we have the biggest oak in Ukraine and we have been there. But it is far not AS BIG! That's i credible, indeed!
Posted using Partiko Android
It's just too bad these aren't in Texas, they would match the ego of most Texans!
Those trees are amazing, hope to see them some day. Sometimes I feel like I am just a speck on earth but then I remember I am truly gargantuan when compared to a bacteria or atom. The way I see it we are positioned about smack-dab in the middle of it all.
haha! Howdy sir hhayweaver! I haven't seen you for awhile but that's probably my fault if you've been posting. Yes, that's a healthy way to look at it, keeps us from feeling too insignificant!
I would also bet that they have a great amount of animal life living on their canopy.
Howdy today sir deepwaters! That is so true...with so much space and cover up there they could be host to so many types of birds and animals! Great point.
Wow Lord Fluffton has really stepped up to the plate here! I knew you could do it lol!
I've been to the Grand Sequoia NP back in 2015 and those trees are MASSIVE! You do have to crane your neck just to be able to see half way up the tree! I think I saw both of these trees but will have to consult the travel journals as a lot has happened since then!
Keep the fluff coming! Rep 68 too! Lord Fluffton and Faketon in one post lol!

Thank you thank you thank you sir nickyhavey! I've been trying for so long to do a fluff post! This is definitely strange that no one got shot or killed in any way! lol.
You nailed it Lord Janton! Keep them coming!

oh no sir nickyhavey, I have to get back to my niche. Many of my readers are asking what my next story is going to be. lol. sorry.
Well, tag me in your next fluff post then lol. Or I can just see what your next story is and see if I can understand it

lol..Well I wouldn't hold my breath on the understanding thing. lol.
Haha me neither if it's written in redneck lol

Howdy Jonboy! Great blog!
I was fortunate to see the Redwoods once while living on the west coast. I made a video of my trip. I couldn't believe how big they were! Here it is I thought the Doug Fir trees were big until I got the Redwood Forest. I remember having to turn on the headlights because the trees were so tall they blocked out the sun making it dark.
haha! Howdy sir rainbow man! That is funny, I never thought of that..making it dark in the daytime! wow, that had to be an experience. It has to be one of the few great things about the West Coast!
I also drove down the Pacific coast highway out of WA state. I have some photos somewhere. I took one with the tanker truck I was driving, and the tree trunks were bigger than the tanker. I took some river stones the size of a basketball. They are mixed in with the PA farm field stones around our pond.

Oh very interesting sir krazzytrukker! Thanks for the photo of your beautiful pond too.
I remember visiting there and seeing those huge Trees really make us feel small standing under them
You've been everywhere JJ! lol.
LOL No I had plans of so many other places to visit before my flying days came to an end, and I have only been to less than a third of the countries in the world :)
oh is that all? lol..you flew your own plane or flew commercial?
LOL, Mostly commercial but some aircraft also chartered by our organization in Missions, I have been to a little over 60 Countries I have colleagues who have been to more ;)
That's totally amazing to me. I feel embarrassed to say that I've been to none. lol.
Nothing embarrassing about that, because first off you have been to one :) unless your living in another planter that does not have countries LOL and I have friends and family, who have never left, the state or region they live in :)
Well that's true. Hey, you have family who have never come to visit you in the U.S.?
YEs many years ago some did, But I have my stepson his wife and kids here there our close family :)
Howdy today JJ! yes, I get that, that's wonderful too.
Yes indeed it is I consider myself truly Lucky
Have a good weekend :)

Hey janton, isn't it just so wonderful that trees can grow so big for years and years, so much energy oozing out. One would not want to be walking along under on those gigantic trees when a branch falls down, lol.
Yeah, you take cover under the tree in a storm for protection and get squished by a giant branch! lol. But yes, they sure are remarkable.
Yes they are wouldn't do without them.
Best Post EVER....!!
I love trees so much I put 2 of them in our house..... Lmao
Posted using Partiko Android
lol! you're hilarious sir krazzytrukker! What is that?
I saw some smaller redwoods in BC and Seattle area (still big). I've also seen big guys in Ontario. Very nice to see a large tree.
Posted using Partiko Android
oh very interesting sir abitcoinskeptic! I thought they only grew in California. lol.
Wow! What massive trees. Just compare the people standing next to the tree trunk. It's huge. Thanks for sharing this with us John.
Howdy Trudee! You are very welcome. Do you guys have big trees there somewhere?
They are simply magnificent. I like knowing that these giants still live in the world!
I agree, it's totally amazing!
That is so cool to know what a awesome world of nature we live in to have these giants around :)
Yes sir hangin and it's finally something that Thailand doesn't have right? lol.
Nope your right but we do have the biggest Banyna tree houses..lol :)
wow that's amazing! Is that for real? It looks like a movie set construction.
It's real sir janton we have these Banyna tree houses on some of the islands around Thailand they are amazing :)
But those are for sell are they? they are just on people's property right?
No they are on resorts you can rent them out by the beach how awesome is that watching a sunset or sunrise from a Banyna Tree House :)
Oh how interesting! Well you have to rent one and do a post about it sir hangin!
I actually did last year i stay in one and did a post on @treetuesday about the place :)
dang I missed it! Well, you'll just have to do it again sir hangin! I think you should make it an annual tradition if the place will allow a mad man to come back a second time! lol.
Well just for you i just might be able to fit that in i was intended to go there for a New Year if you can wait that long and they we certainly let this mad man back in the famous Vin who can resist him....lol :)
lol! yeah, you can use your "Star" power and they can't refuse you! Yes sir, I can wait that long!
Heard so much about these trees! Would love to see and greet them one day!

Howdy sir kaminchan! Oh, that would be so interesting to see what kind of presense of energy or senses you got from them! Especially since most of them are ancient.
Wow! You ARE really interested in ‘energy’!! I think I would probably collapse to the ground as it would be extremely strong!
You should try this yourself! The Red Indian DNA from your previous life will become awakened and you could possibly connect with your past life.
Posted using Partiko iOS
Howdy tonight sir kaminchan! Do you think that's what could happen if you spent time with the Redwood trees?
Mornin’ Cowboy. I saw the three climber in the second to last photo. Awesome sized trees. I like it when trees have a name.
Howdy again redheadpei! I guess those trees deserve a name after being around that long! Do you guys have huge trees up there?
Most of the mighty oaks, here on the Island, were cut down eons ago for shipbuilding.
British Columbia has ancient Douglas fir trees and sequoias but I don’t know if they can match the California Redwood in bigness.
howdy redheadpei! Very interesting. I didn't even know Canada had Sequoias up there, I didn't think the growing season was long enough! lol.
Some parts of B.C. are like California in Canada.
Vancouver, B.C. has the mildest weather in Canada. In winter it’s usually rain instead of snow.
Oh that's amazing, no snow in Canada in the winter?? Yeah they are probably as liberal as CA too. lol. I try not to talk politics though so you can just ignore that statement. lol.
I haven't seen the redwoods in years, but I remember them distinctly! They are amazing! I love the shots you posted. The one with the climbers is awesome.
Howdy goat-girlz! I was blown away by the photo of the climbers, even knowing the size but nothing demonstrates the size like seeing men looking like ants compared to the tree! lol.
Congratulations @janton!
Your post was mentioned in the Steem Hit Parade in the following category:
Oh, well howdy there arcange and thank you so much, what a nice surprise!
You're welcome @janton
Howdy Janton! I can feel the energy just from seeing the photos, but I would love to sit under it for sure. It is almost as being in a fantasy world or a fairyland. I would be expecting the tree talk to me or something, lol. Absolutely breathtaking!
Howdy today Miss Lena! yes the energy would be significant I think. Put that trip on your bucket list!
I definitely will Janton.............thanks for sharing this information. Otherwise I wouldn't know about it 😊
I hope to get out there sometime too but not in the summer. They say the heat is suffocating in the summer with no wind and over 100 degrees temperature which would be over 41C I believe.
Really? Oh my gosh!!! Good to know!
Yeah and one guy said he went deep into the forest in the middle of the day but the trees are so big and thick in some areas that it's as dark as night time because they block out the sun! So you have to take big flashlights with you! lol. Either that or go with Miss Lena who's bright personality will light the way!
And so do you Janton! Thank you, that is very sweet of you, but regardless, we would need flash light. However, I never heard about this before; that's very fascinating!
I was really surprised too, never heard of it. hey I know, we can light torches to see the path with!!
Yeah! And burn the whole forest, lol.
It's been a while since i have been to the redwoods. One of the coolest things i noticed is that when you get to less visited areas there is an incredibly thick carpet of the fallen leaves. It's super soft and super quiet. It's the strangest feeling walking through it. Some of trees have hollow spaces in the trunks that are as big as a small house. Nice to duck in out the rain
Haha! that is just astounding, I need to go sometime. so when you went you could go far into the forest and be by yourself? That would be an epic experience!
There's a lot a places you could go. Not all the redwoods are as big as those but they are still huge. Some places like that have more visitors to see the famous trees. If you do go i suggest checking the area temperature for what time of year you plan on going. It can be very hot in summer in some areas. It was 103 in Ukiah the time i went through there. Not fun at all. Luckily for me Humboldt Bay is not far from there and it was 68 degrees there.
wow! howdy today sir rossfletcher! It was 68 degrees not far from the forest where it was 103?
I think wintertime would be wonderful and less crowds. And of course it wouldn't be suffacating in the forest!
I should look on the map but it didn't take too long to get down by ocean where it was much cooler
Yes sir rossfletcher, the ocean is great in the summer but kinda freezing in the winter with nothing to block the wind. In most places, not Southern California!
Have you ever seen the old movie Endless Summer? Most of the spots they filmed were filmed in winter! Surfers have always been meteorologists of a sort. Especially in the old days before the internet. Winter cold fronts are generally what create the swells that people surf. The northern and southern hemisphere winter fronts crossing the globe over the Pacific and Atlantic generate the vast majority of swell. Once and a while a tropical low pressure like a hurricane will whip up a swell. Often the same storm crossing Russia will snow in Northern Japan then send swell to Hawaii then California and maybe even snow in Texas as it moves east - or at least bring rain. Hmmm i didn't check if Texas gets any snow? Haha.
The pro surfing tour is currently in South Africa at Jeffery's Bay. Winter in Africa.
Onshore wind is always bad for surfing conditions. it's not always onshore though. So you surf around the wind.
Howdy again sir rossfletcher! That old movie sounds very familiar but I don't think I ever saw it. But that's funny that it was filmed in the winter. lol. Also very interesting about the weather patterns that surfers watch, I didn't realize it would be to that extent but it makes perfect sense! Great information.
On the global scale the jet stream and storm movement is pretty simple to see. Local forecasting is... well, everyone knows you never quite know exactly what yer gonna get right? Haha!
Howdy this fine Sunday sir rossfletcher! yes sir, so true on both counts! The local forecasts here in Texas are usually ridiculously undependable.
One of the more well-known ones fell over a couple years back. It was one that they cut a hole through for the road, back in the day. If they had known it was over 2,000 years old back then, I wonder if they would have defiled it that way.
It would certainly be interesting to climb one. A bit unnerving, I bet.
yes, you'd have to be a rock climber I think, I have no idea how they get up there though. I didn't know about the one with the road through it, I wonder if that's what killed it?

This is awesome! I love to see it. We were in TX and visited a VERY large, wise, and old oak tree. We did yoga under the tree and then the group of 10 of us stretched out, hand in hand, as wide as we could to hug the tree and we only got half way around the tree....that was how wide the tree was! It was in Benbrook TX hiddine in the far back part of a field...just passed the field was a small nature preserve area where she sat. I loved that space. It was so peaceful.
Howdy there kindredacres! How interesting..that's over by Fort Worth...that is one massive tree! Wow, if ten of you spread out holding hands could only reach half way around it, that's amazing. It had to be ancient too didn't it? Well then I can only imagine how peaceful the Redwoods would be, fantastic. Thanks so much for commenting!
It sure is by Fort Worth. :) We used to live in Weatherford and would frequent Fort Worth often as most of our friends lived in that area. Yes it was a very very old tree and massive. Majestic honestly.
Howdy again kindredacres! yes, that's the perfect word for it..majestic!
Those are some fair sized trees I'd say... Love the shots of the General
Howdy sir Keith, yes you guys have a giant tree up there, I remember photos of it. But a whole forest would be something to experience!
Yes, it's awesome. I've been to the redwood nat'l forest in California which is truly amazing.
I bet you weren't taking many pictures then were you? I'll get there some day. With all the fires they have in California I just hope they don't have one there!
Wow. Those are huge trees. They must be a million years old.
Posted using Partiko Android
Howdy sir michaeljn! Aren't they astounding? I'm blown away, yes they are thousands of years old. I hope pollution doesn't harm them. Thanks so much for commenting!
Sequoia National Park is the bee's knees for sure! I haven't been there in a while, but, I can remember the awe in which I stood, staring like it was an alien. To me, surely it was a magical place to be.
I sometimes forget the ratio in size compare to us, but, your visuals with those climbers surely put it right back in perspective. I know there are redwoods in various parts of the country but this place is amazing and so worth the visit!
!tip
Howdy dswigle! Thanks so much! Yes, I have to put this magnificent forest on my bucket list, especially after hearing people talk about the peace and energy these giant trees give off!
🎁 Hi @janton! You have received 0.1 STEEM tip from @dswigle!

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide :)
Howdy again Sir @janton. just the other day we visited the oldest oak tree over here (100 years) and have seen some bigger yellow woods, but this post takes the cake, and the baker.
Wow! They are magnificent!
Blessings!
Howdy sir papilloncharity! I agree, to think that these are over 2,000 and 3,000 years old just boggles the mind! I hope they never have a forest fire there.
A fire will indeed cause serious damages and I wonder how long a tree of that girth will burn. How would they get hoses with water up to the top of the trees?
Blessings...
Howdy again sir papilloncharity! Those are good questions and I hope we never have to find out the answers. I don't think they could do much to contain it.
Amazing! That is one place that I would love to visit. Long live the General and the President. : )
Howdy Butterfly! I agree, I think that place would be magnificent. Except they said don't go in the summer because there is no breeze, it's suffocating in there with super high temps over a hundred degrees and in the deep parts it's like night time because the sun is totally blocked out!
That is amazing information and something I wouldn't have thought about.
I thought you were going to say don't go in the summer because of thunderstorms, that one or more trees might fall down.
lol! oh wow, now that would be something if one of those came down! The earth would shake for miles around!
That is crazy. I'd love to see them myself
