So close to home Liz, and yet so far Lol!😇
Rocks ……. or should I say boulders, you can find a plethora of them everywhere you hike in the mountains!☺️
The Mrs always “Finds” the perfect boulder to decorate our front yard……..
Now if I could only pick this one up Liz Lol!😇😅
Silvertop is very fortunate to live not only off the beaten trail, but also very close to a wide range of hiking trails!🤗
I have miles of Mountain trails just as I step outside my front door!
A couple of miles down the road is another one of my favorites, the Lautenbach Gold Mine trail!😊
It has been a while, so I fired up my pickup and headed down the road to the Gold Mine!☺️
Only one car was parked at the trailhead! Usually parking is at a premium, this is an extremely popular hiking destination!
This trail starts with beautiful views of the valley below, with open meadows!
Then you enter an ancient western red cedar Forest……. Sunglasses no longer needed Lol!😎
The trailhead continues at a steady upward pace, through Aspen Groves, and then finally into stands of towering Douglas fur trees!😊
Today’s hike just wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the “Gold Mine Safe”!😇
Silvertop took a close look inside…………
Nope…………
Just as I thought…..No Gold, Lol🤣
Silvertop headed back downhill…………..
“Thanks Come Again! Have A Nice Day!”
I most certainly will be back!🤗

A concreted this into the hillside over 100 years ago!
This was a very large mining operation…. Unfortunately, it was a massive rug pull!🙄
an empty gold safe is not a gold safe at all.
those were the days, were safety protocols were most likely ignored.
It was a different world, the wild West!☺️
There was a large saloon at this site as well complete with dance hall, girls …
Everything is gone, except for the safe !😮
Your hiking spots sound absolutely incredible, @silvertop! Living so close to such diverse trails is amazing. The Lautenbach Gold Mine trail seems like a hidden gem with its beautiful valley views, ancient cedar forest, and towering Douglas fir trees. It’s great you got to enjoy it with fewer people around. Stopping by the “Gold Mine Safe” sounds like the perfect way to wrap up the hike. Happy trails! 😊😎
