Postcards from Thailand #33: Bend Over Please

The jungle drums had been beating. Nathen's been doing some gardening. Quite why it's considered such newsworthy gossip amongst the family, I really don't know.

Anyway. We called to see Fon's gran and aunty and the first thing dear Na Pen said was;

"I'd really like some Cauliflowers"

I was just in the middle of trying to tear out the weeds and roots to make myself the tiniest of veggie patches and suddenly I'm the family fucking farmer!

I told the wife to explain that it may be some time before I had the whole place dug over, planted and was able to feed half the bloody island but undeterred, Aunty went in a drawer and pulled out these rubber gloves...

"Look happy"

Growled the wife as I tried without success to convert to lower my raised eyebrow and pursed lips to look like a grateful and fully integrated family member.

"Are they for prostate massage?"

I asked as innocently as possible, at the same time hoping the only word of English that Aunty knew wasn't prostate, and let's be honest. This is Thailand, so there's actually a reasonable chance it was!

The wife looked over. She'd not quite caught what I said, as in all seriousness replied;

"Of course not, they're for gardening."

Aunty demonstrated a scratching motion on the ground as if I was a 3-year-old with learning difficulties so I just let out an 'Ahhhh' of enlightenment, wai'd and said Khop Kun Khrap, as any grateful ferang nephew would.

The thing is, after spending most of the day pulling roots of the ground by hand, they might just come in useful...

But don't tell Aunty Pen ;-)
