bricked? oops : April 8 2025

i was in search for bricks! interesting right? i was really on the hunt for something interesting with bricks. that is what the title is about and not anything else. (please don't look up its other meanings, consider yourself warned.) bricks are everywhere in a city so the problem lies with me, do i have the skill to take a great picture of something with bricks? the plan was to get here, the tokyo station. that one is one made of bricks, but then it was lights off time. the bricks would never show so i won't be submitting this to a contest, but it sure still looks nice.

so allow me to take the walk from the start. here we pass by jomyoin, a buddhist temple known for the thousands of little jizo statues all lined up inside and around the grounds. it houses the dead just like any other buddhist temples in the area and that alone is the cause why this area is solemn.

1000036035.jpg

1000036036.jpg

ever since i started my journey as a walker, i have passed by this area a more than a couple of times and it was always closed off from the public because of the ongoing construction. now that it has opened, i am featuring photos of this temple in my entries. this one here is most likely a rest area with all the tables and lamps. definitely not the place for dates, but looked too lovely not to be noticed. those floor looked like bricks but i'm just not sure.

1000036042.jpg

1000036046.jpg

now here are real bricks. these underground station walls were bricks. and these floorings of a bridge spanning the kanda river are also bricks. but the problem with them was that they don't look contest worthy shots. this was really a skill issue on my part.

1000036048.jpg

1000036049.jpg

these are also bricks and would have really looked nice if we changed the photographer. yeah, i am really blaming myself for these. at that moment when i took the shot, i really thought it looked right. but now that i am writing about it, i see all the flaws. this second picture would have been fine but that plastic pipe was such an unfortunate sight.

1000036050.jpg

1000036052.jpg

i finally reached awaji park, it was but a narrow strip of public space right in front of a mall or a condominium complex. that installation looked like a pair of bird wings. i think that was the point of it, a free white bird flying towards the condominium complex. no bricks in here though.

1000036058.jpg

1000036060.jpg

a little further along that pretty straight street, i found two other installations. this time, they were metalic. one was quite a dangerous looking pointed object, if it were not pointed up then it would really be lethal. the other was some unique looking apparatus. does anyone know what it resembled?

1000036061.jpg

1000036064.jpg

now here were two other brick looking things. the first one was this very tall building which looked like having brick exterior. now i was thinking really hard if this would be fine, it was a wonder how tall it was to begin with but to be made of bricks? and that made me thought that this must have not been bricks, but a facade finishing style. whatever it was, the picture was also not interesting enough. the other selection would have been this bricked road but same as the other one, it was on the boring side. i just don't know how to make the bricks stand out.

1000036066.jpg

1000036067.jpg

i have now come to the imperial palace grounds. the area had a moat around and this interesting looking roofed spot. it was made of stone bricks perhaps. and that got me researching what a "brick" is. apparently, stone bricks are not considered as "bricks" in the same way as concrete or clay bricks in the construction industry (said AI). "bricks" must be manufactured; stone bricks, although shaped in some way, are made from natural stones.

1000036069.jpg

1000036072.jpg

i saw this bridge from a distance and thought to myself that the floor must be partly made from bricks. nah! i could not even see what it was made from as the floor was covered in pebbles. still no luck.

1000036068.jpg

1000036080.jpg

and that led me to my final picture. this was taken at the very wide park between the tokyo station and the imperial palace. after that long walk, in all honesty this looked like bricks to me. i just loved how wide the park was with that brick flooring. it was not even the design nor the shape that caught my attention, but it was how the different brick composition had an effect to the color and the way each brick dried up with the center remaining moist. (it drizzled earlier that afternoon.) this last photo will be my entry to #pobphotocontest.

hope you enjoyed the walk with me.

as always, AMPNG KANUNAY!
take care always.
