My Actifit Report Card: December 29 2023

Yesterday was quite a busy day.

First, I took my elder son to the dermatologist first thing in the morning. Last night, he told me that he had a lump on the bottom of his right cheek that hurt when he pressed on it. And when I asked him about it, he said that it has been a symptom for almost a week now. It was not apparent on the outside, but when I touched it, there sure seemed to be a lump under the skin. It must be painful when it hits the bone.

I looked for a dermatologist nearby who seemed to have a good reputation and went to see him. But the doctor said, "I don't know what it is" ... he told me to go to a bigger hospital, for which he would write a referral letter. And since it is the end of the year, it will be a long time before I can be seen at the hospital to which I was referred. He gave us a prescription for antibiotics, so hopefully that will make the lump go away.

In the evening, we went to another hospital again to treat my elder son's hay fever; it has been about half a year since he started sublingual immunotherapy in June. The pollen season will arrive in a while after the new year. I hope the treatment will be effective. The hospital was very crowded and it took about two hours.

From 8:00 p.m., we joined the town council's "Year-End Patrol. What this is, is that members of the town council get together and walk around the town chanting "Beware of fire". A dozen or so people gathered and were divided into three groups for the patrol. I and my husband and our two sons participated, and at the end of the walk we were given canned beer, juice, oranges, and candy.

Although these neighborhood association events can be a bit tedious, it is a good way to get to know your neighbors and it is nice to do it once in a while. Thanks to the patrol, I walked more than 8,000 steps.

So it was a busy day with a flurry of activity. Anyway, right now I am worried about the lump on my son's cheek. I hope it is a benign mass or something.

昨日はかなり忙しい一日でした。

まず、朝一で長男を連れて皮膚科へ。右頬の下の方にしこりがあって、押すと痛いと言い出したのです。聞いてみれば、もう一週間近く前からの症状だといいます（早く言ってよ！）。見た目には分からないのですが、触ってみると確かに皮膚の下にコリコリした塊があり、それが骨にあたると痛むのだと思います。

近場で評判の良さそうな皮膚科を探し、診てもらいましたが、結果は「何だか分からない」… 紹介状を書くから、大きな病院に行ってくれと言われてしまいました。しかも年末のため、紹介先で診てもらえるとしてもかなり先になりそうです。抗生剤を処方してもらったので、それでしこりが消えてくれたら良いのですが。

夕方も長男の花粉症治療のため、また別の病院へ。6月に舌下免疫療法を始めてから半年ほど経ちました。年が明けてしばらくすると花粉の季節がやってきます。治療の効果が出ると良いな。病院は激混みで、2時間弱掛かりました。

20時からは、町会の「歳末パトロール」です。これは何かというと、町会のメンバーで集まって「火の用心」を唱えながら町内をねり歩くというものです。集まったのは十数人で、3つの班に分かれてパトロールをしました。我が家は私と夫、息子2人も参加し、最後に缶ビールやジュース、みかんやお菓子をもらって帰宅。

こうした町会の行事はやや億劫ではあるものの、近所に住んでいる人の顔も分かるし、たまには良いかもしれません。パトロールのおかげで、歩数は8,000歩を越えました。

そんなわけでバタバタと忙しい一日でした。今はとにかく長男の頬のしこりが心配です。良性の粉瘤か何かであれば良いのですが。
