VDay Double Feature -- Actifit Report Card: February 14 + 15, 2025
Whoopsie... I forgot to post about Valentine's Day on Friday (and for some reason, my Hump Day post for Wednesday didn't go through either). I have to make up for that today with a quick double feature.
Friday at school was fun because it was the day before a week-long break, so instead of teaching classes, we had a career day with six different presenters for each grade. I was so grateful that one of my favorite soccer mates came down from The Bronx at the crack of dawn to speak to my students about his career as a court reporter.
He was dressed in his trademark NYCFC powder blue 3-piece suit and brought along his stenography machine to show off his insane typing skills. Our scholars were fascinated with how fast he could type and the completely different layout of the keyboard on the stenograph.
Career Day also featured a forensic technologist, a fashion designer, a stand-up comedian, a certified public accountant, and a social media trainer. The kids finished the half day by writing thank you notes and using the remaining half hour to catch up on any missing assignments before the break.
Lucky for us teachers, we did not have any professional development after school. I was done with my day at 1pm, but stuck around on campus for an extra 90 minutes to edit the slate of EDM articles to be published on a busy Friday for Moon Lvnding. When I got home I needed ro clean up around the apartment because our rookie was having people over for a small VDay get together.
I was still feeling a bit under the weather, so I decided not to join along with my partner to go to the dubstep popup rave hosted by Deathpact. Although I love the venue -- 99 Scott -- I just didn't want to risk taking a step back and letting my cold get worse when I was just about to beat it. Anyways, our VDay date was planned for Saturday evening and Monday, I've got plans to go on a skiing day trip with my Dad.
Saturday started as it typically does. My partner stayed out late and slept until 4pm. I rolled around in bed watching Premier League soccer and playing #Splinterlands on my laptop. I took some time looking back in my performance for the prior Season 152 and it might have been my best $SPS earning season ever!
The only event on our Saturday schedule was an early 6pm dinner reservation at one of my partner's favorite Italian restaurants. I started with a delicious duck ragu and finished with a filling braised oxtail. The food was delicious and perfectly executed.
We came back home to Brooklyn after dinner in Alphabet City. Our roomie had a few more of her grad school buddies over to hang out. She even gave us some magic mushroom gummies for a trippy end to Valentine's Day Weekend. After a super late Friday, nobody had anything left in the tank for the UK Garage night histed at Elsewhere. Oh well...
I wasn't able to break 10K steps on either of the two days. But it was cold on Friday and snowing on Saturday, so I had a decent excuse for my lack of steps. Daylight Savings time is right around the corner and that means more sun later in the day. The hype train is pulling up soon. Until next tims...
