Hyacinth orchids and cicadas in Berowra Valley NP : December 10 2024
Got my blog review finished. Wrote up the investing stuff from Monday. Post is nearly ready. Did not leave much time to do a train-bike thing. Took the car to head to Berowra Valley NP to walk there. Hoping for hyacinth orchids and maybe a late flying duck

Nuts time - no idea what they are. Spiky leaves are a clue
Bush was noisy with the sound of cicadas - a cacophony. Purple fan flower - a few around
Normally take the fork off this track to the right (left in picture). Did see a flash of purple from the junction
Hyacinth orchid standing tall
Blotched hyacinth orchid - dipodium variegatum
Walked the side track a bit and found another hyacinth orchid
Slender rice flower - light perfect for the photo work
Hibbertia flower - light good too. The yellow grabs the light and loses focus
Cicada husk
Another pea flower - love the fine hairs captured
Back to the normal track on Great North Walk - no flying ducks today. Cicada noise was deafening
Pays to check every flower - this hibbertia has a yellow bug
Narrow leafed hemigenia
Did get a few photos of the cicadas - able to get close enough
They are about an inch and a half long.

Interesting flowering grass - forty or fifty spikes pop out one third down the spike
Walked past this tree a few times over the years. The tree has fallen over and is still connected to the ground. The new life is growing vertically from the fallen section
