Sydney Ironbark Forest Orchids : November 15 2024 I

avatar

Another grey day and another grey mood. Over a week now and only a few hours of sun. Hard to plan a bike ride when rain is lurking. Pushed hard to get out to walk. Chose to walk to a remnant Sydney turpentine/ironbark forest

A bit of a street walk to get there - flowers along the way

May not have photographed this house before as I normally walk the other side of the road - old style single storey

Always keen to find new flowers in the gardens

Iris time is on us - nice two tone version

Quite a bit of bougainvillea flowering - this one with variegated leaves

Walked through Richmond Park - a remnant Sydney turpentine/ironbark forest. Walked a few times and was hoping for summer orchids. Budding bonnet orchids

Did find one flowering - cryptostylis erecta. Light was a bit low for a great photo. First time finding an orchid flowering here.

Is a fab place to walk. Easy track. Lots of birds twittering above. No traffic noise and not under the flight path we live under

Flowers are a bit of a mix - garden escapees

Angophora flowers - local as

Bike path runs through the park - a serene place

View back to the creek crossing

Back to gardens flowers - no idea what it is

Another newbie up high

Raindrops on the acer. At least I know what this is. Got the steps in - it rained a bit

Dinner: Thai red curry - two versions - one with fresh chicken and one with last week Chinese duck. Simple start - make the red curry sauce - onions, garlic, capsicum, coconut milk, red curry paste, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, chilli

Stir fry the chicken seasoned with salt and pepper. Chop up the roasted duck

Bring it all together - did a separate pot for the duck - added pineapple chunks for that for a touch of sweetness

Top with green herbs. Serve with rice
