Seven Mile Beach lichen and budding hyacinth orchids : November 8 2024

Heading for a different day - first weekend trip to the South Coast since my wife started her new project. We talked about going after work Thursday but settled on Friday. Did leave 30 minutes later than planned after a late night for me. Did stop in the way on Rocky Point Rd for breakfast. A different world - one of the old Greek communities

Noticed on the way down thousands upon thousands of white cabbage butterflies. All flying west away from the sea. Did get out for an afternoon bike ride and walk. Was really lacking in colour - lichen was the.most to be found. Tough for a butterfly to find a flower

The mission - see if there are hyacinth orchids flowering - one budding

Many had their tops chomped off - a sampler

The culprit - one of these caterpillars chomping away

This is what they chomp off. I did mention butterflies - the caterpillars need to eat. Variegated hyacinth orchid budding

Did find some colour - dyanella

Well the lichen colour got me looking for lichen - plenty of great photo views

Building on the lichen theme - seen this before. The bugs that were here before are now gone

On the path back found a lot more hyacinth orchids budding - not chomped here

A few close ups show the variegation of dipodium variegatum

A different shape forming - smaller bud and opening together

Plenty spotty

This one showing signs of droop - got a fungal infection and not likely to flower

Big cluster on a side track - not showing the same brown colour - more green but it is the same orchid

Looped around to other end of the side track - a known spot for blotched hyacinth orchid

Native violet

Garden escapee - very pretty

Ride and walk done - first ride since end of Kids Cancer Challenge at end of October

Dinner: BBQ eye fillet and sausages with friends

Last part - last day for the Kevin Fahey's FRESH launch - made a few sales. Product is now evergreen and the plan is to double the membership. It worked for another product I am supporting - posted a report - made no emails and got traffic
