Donkey orchids in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP : October 11 2024
A slow start. Had an idea for a train - bike ride. Friend of my wife arrived with lunch sourced from a good Chinese spot in Chatswood. Good way to fuel up for a bike ride. Caught the train up the line to access Ku-ring Gai Chase NP by bike
Cycled down to Kalkari Discovery Centre. Pretty sure I would find donkey orchids on the side of the road. Did find them - golden donkey orchids

Cycled down to Kalkari centre to walk from there. Hoping to find sun orchids under the powerlines and bearded orchids in a few known spots below
Walk on Birrawanna Track had a side track to a view across to Mt Colah side above the road that goes down to Bobbin Head

A wow photo. Tree has had a side branch chopped. The main stem goes up. The tree is doing two things. Mourning the cut - the sap and the new life starting

My friend pointed me to a budding cymbidium spot. A little further progressed than her last photo
Wad planning to ride all the way home but there was a hazard reduction burn going on - too smoky - got back on the train
Got some kms done and one orchid open. Good to be on the bike

What you do not know is how small the flowers are. Tough to photograph
