Nowra Visit and ride back to Shoalhaven Heads : October 4 2024

Headed into Nowra to do the shopping. A good different start - lunch in the only Japanese restaurant in town

Shopping done behind the fish and chips counter - good fish and a specially good butcher

Gave me the chance to cycle back - chose not to go looking for orchids

Explored the south side of Shoalhaven River. View to the Manildra starch plant across the river. Bike path runs for a few kms on the south bank. Too bad they stopped it here as this is empty land all the way to Berry Canal that joins the Shoalhaven River to the Crookhaven River

Back to the old Nowra wharf

Cycled along the river path to the end - view of an old house now a caravan park - land still being farmed for feed

Back to cross the river - oldest bridge in NSW - so says the plaque

Too bad when they built the brand spanking new bridge that they would not
leave open access to cyclists and pedestrians to use the old bridge

Instead they built this super expensive underpass and 400 metre loop back to cross the other side. Some shitty path choices the other side up a goat track and a super steep incline to get back to roads. They spent 100's millions on the bridge - make a shoulder for cyclists.

20 kms adds to Great Cycle Challenge kms. Did walk up and down the deck around midnight to get steps over 10k
