Bearded orchids in Berowra Valley NP : October 10 2023

The days are drifting into each other. A slow start. Wrote up a few investing transactions. Headed out on the bike to walk a track in Berowra Valley NP not walked for a while. Hoping to find two spring orchids

First orchid up was a red bearded orchid standing tall with only top flower open

Calochilus paludosus

Each walk is a recce for what is coming up - tongue orchids budding - maybe a week to go

Close up of the bud - cryptostylis subulata. How do I know? Back of the leaf is green - I checked

A few pea flowers out

Purple fan flowers are just beginning. This one is a much deeper purple than normal

Lambertia formosa. One thing I really like about this walk is there is very little traffic noise. Just the cars going down to Galston Gorge

Hibbertia

Lots of these flowering - looks like a Sydney boronia. Look up says philotheca scabra

Part one of the mission is a partial only - flying duck orchid - caleana major - probably closing

Part two of the mission is to get to the drop off in the track and find the snake orchid - maybe flowering

Did find the snake orchid - not flowering and no flower spike

Slender rice flower on the way back.

Was excited to see the first flannel flowers open. So excited that the photo was out of focus

Shadows are good with a bud alongside

Next stop is also a story of out of focus. The corea photo is perfect - the red bearded orchid alongside was not. Good thing I got orchid of the day already

This is Sydney boronia - contrast that with the white one

Budding bonnet orchid - purple back to the leaf

Bigger version of the yellow pea flower

Eucalyptus tree under stress begins to weep sap

Turned into an easy ride - a little hilly to start and then mostly flat - good to stretch the legs a bit

About the rest of the day - fixed irrigation problems. Tidied up garden a bit more. Published the weekly investing post
