La plaza más grande en honor a Simón Bolívar mide 34.000 m2
En la construcción de este parque historico-urbano participaron dos grandes arquitectos venezolanos; Ernesto León y Carlos Raúl Villanueva. Mientras que la escultura tallada en bronce, de Simón Bolívar, estuvo a cargo del escultor italiano Emilio Gariboldi.
The largest square in honor of Simón Bolívar measures 34,000 m2
Two great Venezuelan architects, Ernesto León and Carlos Raúl Villanueva, participated in the construction of this historic-urban park. The bronze sculpture of Simon Bolivar was the work of Italian sculptor Emilio Gariboldi.
Poco admiramos lo que no conocemos
En cada ciudad y cada pueblo de Venezuela hay una plaza edificada en honor a Simón Bolívar, El Libertador, unas más grandes e imponentes que otras, pero en nuestra cotidianidad todas tienen la misma función; nos sirven de punto de orientación, pregunte acá una dirección y espontáneamente respondemos; a dos calles, a tres cuadras, frente, bajando o subiendo... por la plaza Bolívar. Y si de encontrarnos en el centro de la ciudad se trata, el mejor lugar es en la plaza Bolívar, en las bancas que están frente a la estatua, así hacemos y nadie se extravía. No es broma.
En esa misma cotidianidad y costumbre, pasamos por alto la maravilla de obra que tenemos frente a nosotros, lo escribo en primera persona, pasé muchos años caminando y hasta me había sentado a comer un helado en este monumento y lo único que sabía era que había sido construida en el gobierno de Juan Vicente Gómez, uno de los dictadores que más se ha perpetuado en el poder, en Venezuela, 1908-1935. También tenía conocimiento que en el año 1994 fue declarada Monumento Histórico Nacional, pero desconocía que el maestro Carlos Raúl Villanueva la había proyectado y menos que lo había hecho inspirado en en los jardines del Palacio de Versalles, de París.
Little do we admire what we do not know
In every city and every town in Venezuela there is a square built in honor of Simon Bolivar, the Liberator, some bigger and more imposing than others, but in our daily life they all have the same function; they serve us as a point of orientation, ask here for directions and we spontaneously respond: two blocks away, three blocks away, in front, going down or going up... through the Bolivar square. And if you want to meet us in the center of the city, the best place is in the Plaza Bolivar, on the benches that are in front of the statue, so we do and no one gets lost. This is no joke.
In that same daily routine and habit, we overlook the marvel of work that we have in front of us, I write it in first person, I spent many years walking and I had even sat down to eat an ice cream in this monument and the only thing I knew was that it had been built in the government of Juan Vicente Gomez, one of the dictators who has been perpetuated in power in Venezuela, 1908-1935. I also knew that in 1994 it was declared a National Historic Monument, but I did not know that the master Carlos Raul Villanueva had designed it and even less that he had done so inspired by the gardens of the Palace of Versailles in Paris.

El mundo vivía una recesión económica, se descubría el planeta Plutón, en Francia se prohibía la proyección de la película “La Edad de Oro” del cineasta español Luis Buñuel, después de su accidentado estreno, en Argentina ocurrió un golpe de Estado, en Venezuela se conmemoraba el centenario de la muerte de Simón Bolívar, y para ello el gobierno de entonces, lo hizo inaugurando este grandioso espacio de 34.000 m2, que a la fecha tiene 95 años.

The world was experiencing an economic recession, the planet Pluto was discovered, in France the projection of the film “The Golden Age” by Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel was prohibited after its accidental premiere, in Argentina a coup d'état occurred, in Venezuela the centenary of the death of Simón Bolívar was commemorated, and the government of the time inaugurated this grandiose space of 34,000 m2, which to date is 95 years old.

El jardín está descuidado, pocas especies de plantas, a excepción de los longevos árboles de Samán y Cedro lucen con verdor. Acudí en grupo, un domingo por la tarde, era Semana Santa, estaba bastante sola, pero las ardillas nos dieron la bienvenida.
La plaza está ubicada en una avenida principal, que también lleva el nombre de héroe venezolano, a sus alrededores el Teatro de la Ópera, la sede del gobierno de la región, una escuela de formación de militar, el museo aeronáutico y el edificio más alto de la ciudad, la torre Sindoni. Maracay es una pequeña ciudad de al menos 1,7 millones de habitantes, incluyendo la zona metropolitana, ubicada en el centro de Venezuela a 123 kilómetros de Caracas.
In our days
The garden is neglected, few species of plants, except for the long-lived Saman and Cedar trees look green. I went there in a group, on a Sunday afternoon, it was Easter, it was quite lonely, but the squirrels welcomed us.
The square is located on a main avenue, which also bears the name of a Venezuelan hero, around the Opera House, the seat of government of the region, a military training school, the aeronautical museum and the tallest building in the city, the Sindoni tower. Maracay is a small city of at least 1.7 million inhabitants, including the metropolitan area, located in the center of Venezuela, 123 kilometers from Caracas.

Hace unos 2 años estuve en Bogotá, Colombia, pasé por la bonita plaza de Bolívar de esta ciudad, para entonces no conocía Hive, la verdad perdí una gran oportunidad de registro fotográfico, así que si alguien está por allí, le invito a que comparta con todos esta belleza donde se reúnen cientos de personas cada día. En España, Austria, Bulgaria, Bielorrusia, Argentina, Brasil, Panamá Perú, Ecuador, Canadá y otros países existen bustos y plazas de El Libertador de América, ¿estas cerca de una de ellas? ¿te animas a mostrárnosla?

About 2 years ago I was in Bogota, Colombia, I passed by the beautiful Bolivar Square in this city, by then I did not know Hive, the truth is that I missed a great opportunity for photographic record, so if someone is there, I invite you to share with everyone this beauty where hundreds of people gather every day. Esta plaza está cargada de energías, no es una plaza cualquiera; tal vez por eso se arropa con el silencio de la soledad. Recuerdo que una vez acompañé a una amiga a una sesión de fotos y ella, a plena luz del día, quedó en traje de baño jajaja no es la mejor manera de rendirle tributo al lugar pero aún así sólo alcanzó un par de miradas; es decir, es una plaza sola por esencia.
