A visit to Whisby - Enjoying the first day of my Holiday

whisb january 2025 first-4.jpg

Today was the first day of my Holiday, and it didn't get of to the best off starts... I spent 2 hours talking to our energy supplier. We are several hundred quid in credit, and thought that it would be worth asking for some of that to be refunded. I had 3 different 'agents' in the chat, and each time I explained the situation, I was told they would help, and then they got disconnected.

By the time it got to 11am, I'd had enough, and turned it all off to try again another day. What a waste of time...

Right...Stop... lets try this again

Today is the first day of my holiday, and to start the week we had planned to go out somewhere. We had spent most of xmas being busy with work and family stuff, it was time for my partner and I to do something together

We contemplated a couple of different locations, but decided just for ease to pick a local reserve, so we plumped for Whisby:

It's just down the road for us, and is a reasonable place to visit all year round. It is popular at the weekends, but on a chilly Monday morning, it should be a little quieter

My partner wanted to go, for an opportunity to test out some new camera kit in preparation to returning back to uni next weekend. I just wanted to go for a walk in the fresh air and spend some time together

It was also a chance for me to dust off my camera and take a few photos. Photography is something I used to be heavily involved with, but recently the interest has waned slightly. I still kept all my gear, ready in case the opportunity needed it.

Today I picked out the Canon 5Dmk2, along with the ever reliable 24-105mm L series lens. I used to bring all sorts of kit with me on these 'day outs' but today I wanted to travel light.

There will be a proper post once I've finished sorting and editing photos, but for now here are a selection of shots as a little taster :-)

We were out and about for around 2 hours this morning, and it was a pleasant enough walk, if on the chilly side! Afterwards, we debated heading into the cafe for some hot drinks/food to warm us up, but a quick glance at the prices on the menu put us right off!

11.95 for Scampi and Chips!? Can't justify that price in a pokey little cafe!

After we arrived that, it was time for my run, as per usual for a Monday

The last time I ran more than 9km was way back at the start of December, thats over 4 flippin' weeks ago! I've been keeping the distance down due the the injury niggle, but after the rest over xmas and the effort from my sports therapist, I feel finally ready to take on a longer run.

And not a moment too soon, the 5km distance is just not long enough to enjoy it... it kinda takes me an hour to get into the groove, if you get me

It was great to head out and get a longer run done. Really feel like I've turned a corner with the injury in the past few days. The pain is still there, but much diminished, and the hope is that with the increase in training, along with strength exercises and the appropriate stretches, that I can finally see the back of it!

Tomorrow I will be pottering around the house, and then editing the rest of my images. And then on Wednesday we can go out and explore another local nature reserve... I'll be sure to share any interesting pictures or stories here, so keep your eyes posted.

Beautiful photos. I have always wanted to go to Whitby but have never made it. My Mum and late Dad loved it.

Thank you, I don't go out and explore the outdoors with a camera as much as I used to, mostly down to lack of time. It's a crap excuse, but unfortunately it gets used time and time again. Today made a nice change :-)

Just to clear up a potential confusion over names: Whitby is a popular scenic/tourist destination up on the Yorkshire coast, and Whisby is a little-known Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Lincoln ;-)

Oh and something we have in common, Whitby is a place that I've also never been to, yet my parents regularly enjoyed visiting it themselves
