@dannewton just finished a 5.18km run, that lasted for 33 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 456.0 calories.

Description from Strava: Well, when i say testing out a 'new' camera, i really mean finally getting round to using the Insta360x3 camera that i bought earlier thus year but have only used a couple of times.

I keep meaning to use it more often, but truth be told its not easy to do while running, although i guess thats mostly due to my lack of experience.

But the running for the 6 months has been hit or miss, so the camera was left on the shelf at home. I really do want to try and start using it more often, and so have made a concerted effort to take it out with me today.

There is still an element of testing, one of the items i got for xmas was a backpack mount for the 360x3. Its a simple device, and features a sturdy velcro strap with a camera attachment, and as the name suggests, it attaches to my backpack strap This means i would be able to film 'hands-free' which should help with filming.

I tried it out on a walk a couple of weeks ago, and was pleased with how easy it was to attach, and the resulting video's i recorded. Next step was take it out on a run, and it turned out today was the day. I managed to attach it to my running vest, although it doesn't fit as good as it does on my normal backpack.

Once i was happy the camera was secure, I headed out for the run. Although it was still cold out, most of the ice appears to have disappeared, and so i headed out onto the bypass. I only wanted to do 30 minutes, so it was an easy jog in one direction for 15 minutes, and then 15 minutes back towards home. The camera stayed in position for the whole time, and the only thing that changed was that for the first half it was in 360 lens mode, and the second half it was in single lens mode.

I wanted to test which option was better, eg more stable... and i can save you the suspense now, it it is a million times better in 360 mode, as the footage stays perfectly horizontal (and of course i can reframe the footage anyway i like). On the other hand, the single lens footage wasn't straight (due to the way it attached to the camera) and was bouncy and jerky. It was watchable, but 360 is definitely better.

Will try to share some footage once the videos have finished exporting... although to be honest, these 2 screenshots show the difference

360 footage being edited... nice and straight

Single lens footage... wonky as hell!

I think there is a clear winner!!

In other news, we are heading out tomorrow to a local nature reserve... and its the first time we've gone out anywhere together since my partner went to uni last September. Not sure where yet, but it might just be Whisby Nature Reserve. I will take a camera, and also my little 360x3, and I'll be sure to share some pictures/films in due course

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)
