What are caimaneras?

This is how it is known in Venezuela when you get together with your friends to practice some sport, such as soccer, baseball, indoor soccer, volleyball, etc. It does not matter if it is in a field for that, since the caimaneras can be armed in the street, on public roads. And when the cars come, the players move aside, the car passes, and the game continues.

In the photos I show one of them. We set it up one afternoon, in front of a local hotel that had a field that was used to play soccer. Someone had the brilliant idea of setting up some goals, and although it didn't have the official dimensions or the markings on the ground, it was big enough for us to have fun that afternoon.

It is not uncommon that in a caimanera someone ends up angry because he lost a lot, or someone we all talk about because he made a very funny play. That day I was the one who took a hard hit and my left knee got swollen. It seems that we will never know what each caimanera will bring. Maybe that's why we love it so much and look forward to doing them regularly.

¿Qué son las caimaneras?

Así se le conoce en Venezuela cuando te reúnes con tus amigos a practicar algún deporte, como futbol, beisbol, futbol de salón, voleibol, etc. No importa si es en una cancha para eso, ya que las caimaneras pueden armarse en plena calle, en via pública. Y cuando vienen los carros, los jugadores nos apartamos, pasa el carro, y el partido continúa.

En las fotos muestro una de ellas. La armamos en una tarde, frente a un hotel local que tenía un campo que servía para jugar futbol. Alguien tuvo la genial idea de colocar unos arcos, y aunque no tenía las dimensiones oficiales ni las marcas en el suelo, tenía el tamaño suficiente para que nos divirtiéramos esa tarde.

No es raro el que en una caimanera alguien termine bravo porque perdió mucho, o alguien del que todos hablamos porque hizo una jugada muy graciosa. A mi ese día me tocó ser quien llevó un fuerte golpe y se me inflamó la rodilla izquierda. Parece que no sabremos qué nos deparará cada caimanera. Quizás por eso nos guste tanto y buscamos hacerlas con regularidad.
