Onboard rally video of the day - Solberg sr with Subaru Impreza WRC at Rally Sardinia
Hi, friends!
I wrote a lot about Solberg jr called Oliver, but there is also his father Petter who us also World Rally Champion from season 2003. His best years with Subaru World Rally Team. He drove also for Ford and for his private Petter Solberg World Rally Team.
He started with Ford in 1999 when he was a replacement for Thomas Radstrom at Safari Rally Kenya where he finished 5th overall- That was enough for all the works teams to look for his duties.
But Petter Solberg chose Subaru and he didn't regret. He was growing with them as a driver and finally won his only WRC crown as a driver in 2003.
Those years after 2003 were full of battles with Seb Loeb who just became a better and more consistent driver. Loeb also had a better car from 2005 afterwards because that Citroen Xsara WRC was just a dominant car.
I must admit that guys from Subaru just couldn't make that Impreza WRC S12, S12b or S14 as a winning car. Something was wrong there and only their engineers know more about that. They also had F/X Demaison, a famous rally engineer who almost always works with Solberg sr.
Later Demaison became an engineer for Volkswagen Motorsport and Petter Solberg got a drive in 2019 for their VW Polo R5 on WRC Wales Rally. That was a really tight connection.
But Solberg jr always liked gravel rally of Sardinia where he was always super quick. Today we have one of the shorter special stages where we can see why Solberg jr, with Phil Mills as his co-driver was so good and precise.
Please enjoy and learn from Norwegian master... :)
