When Pride goes off Beam

The term "pride" is most time viewed in a positive light. It mesmerizes positive images in an athlete’s euphoria after a record-setting performance. But few would find error with these positive images of pride.

Pride is double-edged in the sense that in can be destructive in the wrong places and proportions and also admirable in the right ones.
Pride serves athletes as the pursue success because when positive approval is received from others, it motivates the individual to work longer and harder to achieve success. But when this pride is experienced off beam, it may lead athletes to feel special and entitled and this is dangerous.

This type of pride experienced off the beam is termed hubristic pride. It is a type where sport participants engage in violence, taking selfish advantage of others. Pride on the normal sense of positivity is the satisfaction received from a successful performance and positive feedbacks from others. But by the time, athletes or sport participants goes off the beam, - hubristic pride, it allows engagement in harmful acts without feeling remorse because of the lack of perspectives. Sometimes it happens between the athletes and the coach or two athletes or teams.

When pride goes off beam, athletes starts cheating and sometimes injure others in order to achieve success and sustain their pride. Coaches sometimes becomes abusive of athletes as they seek success and enhancement of their pride.
