Hive FPL Game Week 8 Summary: Wild Cards, Free Hit, & Missing Players
It looked like we went a long time without premier league football right? It was expected that alot of managers would forget to select their team. Were you among them? Were you able to play either the wild card or free hit chip?
Anyway, Despite the postponement of some matches, Game week 8 has come and gone. In all games played this weekend, a minute of silence was held to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Did you maximize the opportunity by gaining alot of points and climbing the Hive Fpl ladder? The gap between the leaders is getting bigger, however, There is an international break upcoming which should give some managers enough time to strategize a comeback.
That being said the dynamics of the game are constantly changing and there would always be twists and turns. As usual, There were alot of talking points in GW8, Let's dive into it, Shall we?
Steven Gerrard would go into the international break a bit relieved after his side grinded victory at home on Friday. Hosting the saints can be very tough and Villa needed strong individual performances to scale through. The only goal of the game was scored by Jacob Ramsey [MID]. It was a funny and scrappy goal because the ball fell luckily at the feet of Ramsey to break the deadlock.
The rest of the match was far from luck as Aston villa stood its ground to claim all three points and put a very much-needed smile on the face of the manager.
[DEF] Tyrone Mings who cost only £4.3 was the standout player as he kept a clean sheet and recorded 3 bonus points.
As for the saints, It's back to the drawing board.
A championship premier league match like this lived up to expectations as it was filled with a lot of goals and surprises. Fulham the eventual winner in a close 3-2 scoreline dominated the game and at the same time were lucky not to lose.
Taiwo Awoniyi [FWD] broke the deadlock for Nottingham forest early on despite the visitors having the large share of possession. It was his second goal of the season. The visitors came out of the break with a better determination to put the ball at the back of the net and they did so.
Three quick goals scored in six minutes gave Fulham their 3rd victory of the season despite forest pulling one back later stage of the game.
It's hard to imagine a 5 goal thriller without a Aleksandar Mitrovic Goal. The striker has scored in almost every match played during the season but failed to score against forest.
It was a routine win for the premier league champions against a toothless wolves side. It was a matter of "how many goals" as Haaland continues to dominate in the premier league.
Phil Foden [MID] has also been in the middle of things lately as he grabbed a goal for himself in this encounter. Jack Grealish scored the opener in the first minute which made the game flow in one direction.
It was as expected as Erling Haaland (£12.0m) was the most captained player again this week. Haaland surpassed his own record of 5.4m Armband support from GW6, and is still yet to blank in Fantasy. Surprised?
Just like Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne (£12.3m) also rewarded his managers, with the Belgian being the second most-signed player in Fantasy for GWk 8.
De Bruyne provided two assists against Wolves, taking his tally to six in FPL this season.
Are Man city players the most worthy players to be on your team? Let us know in the comment section.
The pressure was on the Home team to win this encounter. For some obvious reason, Newcastle has been projected to be among the top clubs in the premier league and expectations are running around. With only one loss so far this campaign, the host were pushing for victory. Yes, they dominated the game but were punished on the counter. They were a bit fortunate to have conceded just one goal after the wonderful cross that met Philip Billing
Just like they have lost just once this season, they have only won once with drawing games their most consistent result. Few minutes later, They were given a penalty after the referee spotted an handball off Jefferson Lerma, deflecting Kieran Trippier’s cross. New signing, and one of the most played striker in fpl this week Alexander Isak slotted home to level the game.
In general, Newcastle struggled and raised alot of worries as they spent more than £200m on new players since the start of January.
As for the cherries, They live to fight another day.
Spurs hosted the foxes in what was expected to be the toughest game of GW8. Overall, Spurs are the better side however, due to the poor performances of the foxes, A fight was expected.
Leicester city brought the game to spurs very early and were rewarded with a penalty in the 6th minute. Youri Tielemans missed it into the save hands of hugo loris but on review the penalty was retaken and this time he scored.
Leicester played well but failed to hold their own from set-pieces as Harry Kane and Eric Dier nodded home from corners to turn the game around. It wasn't over as James Maddison who has been the foxes best player the season came up with a sensational goal to level the scoreline.Rodrigo Bentancur capitalized on Wilfred Ndidi costly mistake as the Nigerian gave away possession cheaply and allowed the 3rd goal for spurs.
The match was heading for a dramatic and nervy ending before substitute Son Heung-min [MID] stole the show!
A 13-minute hatrick from the south-korean changed the game completely. The goals he scored were superb and scintillating. In Fpl, He recorded a whopping 36 points!
The Foxes will go back sad as they had a lot of chances and failed to convert them.
Arsenal who had their premier league unbeaten start shattered by Man united at old trafford travelled to end Brenford's three match unbeaten run. They did it comfortably with alot of flare and stand out performances. History was also made by the Gunners alongside their victory. Ethan Nwaneri [MID], who became the youngest Premier League player at 15 years and 181 days ,did that when he came on as a late substitute.
Arsenal's sixth win of the season began with Headers from William Saliba [DEF] and Gabriel Jesus [FWD] before a second half fantastic strike from Fabio Viera [MID] on his first start.
It was a fairly easy contest for Arsenal and a difficult day at work for the Bees. Brenford has scored at least one goal in all their league matches the season, However they failed to score one here having just two shorts on targets. Big names like Ivan Toney [FWD], Bryan Mbeumo [FWD] failed to make a mark and would be looking forward to a better outing after the International break.
Frank Lampard's Everton finally win a game this season thanks to a Maupay's debut goal. You could see the smile and relieve from the face of the manager as the three points against the hammers might just have kept his job. Neal Maupay [FWD] might just be another player to watch out for as his quickness to goal was demonstrated after receiving the pass from Alex Iwobi [MID]
West Ham's lost see them drop back to the relegation zone alongside forest and Leicester City who are yet to win a premier league game.

Is it just me, or is this season just batshit cray cray.
😂 😂 😂 I don't know what this means, but it's not only you 😭😂
Fpl is just hard this season 😭
I used my freehit and manage to gather 62points which push me up on the table. I'm not in a haste to select my team for the next gameweek because players can sustain injuries during international duties .
