Even though it's the duty of refs to officiate and regulate football games in a holistic manner and without unjust favouritism, it is advisable to weigh the attitude of fans and players in a given area before accepting such a risky task. What's the security nature of the area? Are there enough policemen to counter any possible attack from hostile players and fans? These are some of the questions that must be provided acceptable answers to before agreeing to play referee role.

The outcome of the game between Caracas FC and Minasoro clubs in the South American country of Venezuela, is an event that's highly condemnable, and which football regulatory authorities should raise their sanction hammer against.

A spectator had recorded a scene where a referee was chased, caught and wrestled to the ground and then kicked in the head by the players. As a result of the beating and kicking the ref was left motionless in the ground before help could come from the police and opposing players.

The bone of contention

According to local media, Minasoro was leading Caracas FC by a lone goal when the ball got to the goalkeeper who adopted delay tactics by holding the ball for more than six seconds. This was happening in the 94th minutes, and the ref couldn't cordon it. As a result, he blew his whistle and awarded free kick against Minasoro. And Caracas utilised the rare opportunity to score the equaliser.

Following this, Minasoro players got angry with the referee and ran at him and started the show of shame during which the ref was pursued, caught, beating and kicked! What a shameful incident! How crude!

I have been expecting sanction hammer from Venezuelan football regulatory body, but till now, nothing has been heard from either the body nor the management of the two clubs. This is desecration of football, and a big insult to FIFA I must say.

For me, I suggest that FIFA ban the entire Venezuelan football to send strong message to the rest of the world that such ugly incident shouldn't have any place in football. Very disgraceful. Indeed, its a dark day for football.
