Jupiler League Week 14 Sunday Previews

These are previews from matches involving Belgian Teams with all the latest on team news, player form, and injuries along with my personal betting angles, ...

Saturday started quite good but ended badly so overall more or less break even and the grind continues on Sunday with 4 more matches...

Cercle Brugge vs Anderlecht

Cercle Brugge in their European away match managed to keep LASK at a 0-0 score after striker Denkey got a red card in the 1st half. In the league they started winning and are now only with 1 loss in their last 5. They have picked up their form but I'm also not fully sold yet as it feels like they still will have these matches where they are nowhere defensively while at the same time they have shown to be capable. Over the season they are at 1.72xg against but in the last 3 matches it was only 0.83xg. Anderlecht picked things up after 2 really bad matches against Beerschot and Club Brugge with an easy win over Kortrijk which might be more because of the opponent looking how Kortrijk played again yesterday. They played a 1-1 draw against Rigas while they were the big favorite. This season they have beaten their handicaps away from home but not at home. Cercle Brugge has yet to lose a home corners matchup while they also have yet to win a corner matchup against a top team. Anderlecht went to at least 9 corners in all their away matches while Cercle averages 13 at home so if it hits a Over 9 line early on I might be tempted to get in. I agree with a +0 line as this one really could go both ways. Anderlecht their defense is too vulnerable for me to back them. No Pre-Game Bets

AA Gent vs Standard

The trend for AA Gent is quite clear in that they put up bad performance after bad performance while they still manage to take plenty of points as luck has been on their side. This again was the case against Omonia in the mid-week match where they for sure will have picked up some fatigue. They do always perform better at home compared to on the road but they remain a team right now that I'm mainly looking to oppose. Standard so far playing with all focus on the defense while not creating much themselves got in a situation where somehow they already have 18 points while on quality they should be a team that possibly fights to avoid a bottom 4 spot. Last week they got incredibly lucky on a win against Stvv which was not deserved. I'm once again expecting a defensive showing from Standard who likely would sign for a point and an underwhelming performance from AA Gent. I went for 0.15 units on 1H Under 1 @ 1.990, 0.05 units on Under 2.5 @ 1.937, 0.067 units on Under 10 Corners @ 1.862, & 0.033 units on Both Teams Not To Score @ 2.04.

Union vs Genk

Union once showed in the mid-week that they aren't bad but that scoring goals remains a big problem. The pitch was pretty bad and they looked tired at the end which is one of the main reason why I ended up taking a 0.4 unit bet on Genk +0.25 @ 1.797 at the time their match ended. Things for Genk are going great, they are on top of the table with a big lead, are bringing the best football by far in the league, have no fatigue issues, have a great team vibe and a good coach while they don't really miss key players. Their bench also is really strong with Karetsas, Cuesta, Penders, Oh and many players now are just in a good form. I simply don't see them as the underdog even though I also don't think this will be a walk in the park. It remains a match that needs to be played against a good team. Genk also leads the xg with an average of 2.44 on the season while Union still does 1.6 on average. So it can be expected to be a match where teams are willing to go forward. At the same time, both Union (1.15xg) and Genk (1.09xg) also aren't that vulnerable defensively. Genk in their last match away against a good team mainy talked defense which ended in a 1st half with 0.00xg-0.55xg. If it turns out to be a match where both teams want to go forward, I likely will back the over in corners which Union tends to do well on.

Beerschot vs Club Brugge

Club Brugge managed to take a 1-0 win in the midweek against Aston Villa and they also won their 3 last matches in the league. All of those came with a 1-goal win though as they still fail to really dominate opponents and completely destroy them. Today if anything should be a good opportunity to do so as they play against the weakest team in the league Beerschot. Their coach has switched a more open play style to full defense which is working as they started taking points only losing 1 match in the last 4. They played against AA Gent at home last week and were not horrible keeping home a 0-0 at the end. Club Brugge however should be a different beast as the quality difference is just too big. However, this so far was the case for many matches brugge played yet they are only 4W-6L-3P against their handicaps. There is also a small risk for Club Brugge to rotate even though I don't expect this given that there is an international break. Overall, the quality difference should be too big and I was willing to take an initial 0.1 unit bet on Club Brugge -1.5 @ 1.860 with an eye to possibly increase my stake in-game.
