NCAA Basketball Recap: Getting All Caught Up!

With the Christmas holiday in our rear view now, it seems like it was years ago that I last watched a college basketball game. Days have been filled with family and food and football to be honest. Sure, there were some NBA games on the other day, but I think we can all agree the NBA isn't really sport anymore. Heck, I'd even argue that WWE Wrestling is more of a sport than the NBA.

Needless to say, I have a lot of catching up to do. I didn't write a post yesterday because I was away from my computer pretty much all day. It's not a bad thing, it's just the way things go around the holidays. I only had a mild bout of withdraw from not writing my daily sports post.

When we left off last week, there were no top 25 games on Thursday night. Friday night gave us two games in the top 25. Neither of them were an upset, but (19) Cincinnati had a kind of close game against (22) Dayton, but came away with the 66 to 59 victory.

Saturday there were 15 games in the top 25 which is good because after that weekend college basketball went on a bit of a hiatus until after the Christmas holiday.

(9) Marquette had a tight win over Xavier 72 to 70. I'm never surprised to see such close games in the Big East conference. (11) UConn also had a close call against Butler, but came away with the 78 to 74 win.

Mississippi State upset (21) Memphis 79 to 66, and (20) Michigan State had a very nice victory against Florida Atlantic.

Carr pretty much had the game of his life so far, which was amazing to see. It was a great game. The 86 to 69 victory was just icing on the cake. I can't say enough good things about my expectations for this team. I just hope they don't disappoint!

North Carolina upset (18) UCLA 76 to 74, and (2) Auburn beat down (16) Purdue 87 to 69. There was also a really good game between Ohio State and (4) Kentucky in the games at Madison Square Garden. Interesting that both of those UCLA/NC and OSU/KU ended up in upset victories for the unranked team. Ohio State gave Kentucky a whooping 85 to 65.

On Sunday there were six games in the top 25. Illinois beat Missouri 80 to 77 and I can only assume Missouri used to be ranked before these games were played. Well done Illinois for the upset victory. That was the only upset on Sunday.

Monday gave us one game in the top 25 and it was a contentious match up between Middle Tennessee and (1) Tennessee. The first half of the game was quite close with Middle Tennessee coming out strong in the first ten minutes of the game.

Eventually The Volunteers pulled ahead and that was all she wrong. They secured the 82 to 64 victory.

Then the holiday's hit. Teams are back in action tomorrow night, but for today you just have to settle for bowl games. There are three of them on today and then about five of them tomorrow.

That Kentucky loss was hard to watch.

I know right? MSU plays Ohio State in just about a week and I am honestly a little worried about it now. I hope it was just a fluke. I think my inlaws are trying to get me a ticket to the game so I can go with them. We will see.
