Bozz Family Fantasy Football 2024: Draft Complete!
There are times I wish our family could have a proper fantasy football draft. I remember the first time I was invited to be on a fantasy football draft. A group of us from work all met at a local bar and I was a bit dizzy with all the action going on around me. People with notebooks and magazines shouting out names and positions. I was so green back then!
Thankfully, I've gotten smarter although my teams record wouldn't show it, and technology has gotten better that although we are spread across the Midwest region of the US, we can still participate in a league together. Like I said though, there was something really special about meeting in person and selecting your players. I wish I could share that with my this current league.
Instead, we do a blind online draft that basically has some Yahoo super computer somewhere picking the players for you. I've covered this before, but players are ranked at the beginning of the season and depending on the draft order, you just go down the list. The first player goes to the person with the first draft pick and so on and so forth.
When you get to the end of team list, you start all over again with the 13th or 14th player on the list. It just all depends on how many teams you have in your league.
Of course, all that gets thrown out the window when you consider the pre-draft rankings and the do not draft list. For example, I put Aaron Rogers on my do not draft list, so even if his number came up on my pick, it would automatically go to the next player. Then the person after me would get that lousy piece of crap. :)
It works the same way with the pre-draft rankings. I might have rookie who is ranked pretty low, but I know they are going to be a baller. I can throw them in my pre-draft rankings and they will get picked before anyone else. It's basically your way of bypassing the "experts" opinions.
I think I've talked about this in the past, but our draft is a blind draft. Basically, for me this means that I hold the draft at a randomly appointed time and although I know when it is going to happen, no one else in the league does. I call this method the Maya rule. Many years ago when we started this league, I made the mistake of announcing when the draft would take place. While everyone else in the league was fine letting the computer make their picks, my niece found out she was able to go in during the live draft and make specific selections.
Kind of like the pre-draft rankings, but a little more refined. This ended up giving her a pretty unfair advantage through the whole season. To avoid that, I no longer announce when the draft is going to happen. Likewise, to maintain the integrity, I don't log back into the platform until I have been alerted that the draft is finished.
So what you see above is my team for this season. Well part of it...
Here is the rest.
I'm not feeling too bad about my team so far. I have a bit of time before I need to start worrying about bye weeks in terms of replacement players. I also think I have a good mix of veteran and rookie players. I've been a closet fan of the Bills for a while now, so it is cool to see Allen in my top spot. However, if the Lions have the year many expect they will, it's going to be a hard choice between Goff and Allen.
However if Coleman ends up being a preferred target of Allen, that might be a deadly combination for me. Only time will tell! Who knew I was going to pick up so many Vegas players. Plus their defense. Let's hope the Raiders have a banner year.
I'm going to close out this post for now, but it won't be long before I dig into my team a bit more. As always, I plan on posting my results each week.
Every single time that I have put a bunch of research into my Fantasy teams i end up doing poorly. The best I have ever done was when I couldn't make it to the draft day and my team was randomly chosen by a computer. I nearly won the whole thing that year.
That sounds abut right quite honestly. I feel like things go a lot better for me when I take that route as well!
There was a time not that long ago where I was for reasons I can't remember, unable to make adjustments to my team from week to week so the system auto-subbed players in/out for me. Those two weeks were the best performance I had the entire season.
Oh wow, that sounds amazing! I wonder if I should start using ChatGPT to set my lineup. That might be an interesting experiment!
could be. WOuldn't it be frowned upon by other participants though?
Only if they find out about it... I probably won't do it, I'm not sure if there an easy way to implement it anyway.
