Gaelic football super 8's.

For those people here that haven't been following it is time for the super 8's in Irish Gaelic football. Down to the 8 last and best teams in the country to play for the all-Ireland trophy. My county Clare put up a good fight but lost the last qualifier round by 1 point and didn't make it into the last 8.

I've written previous posts on the game itself so this is an overview of the teams left in the competition. I'll try to post more often and give more detail into the game itself as well.

As it now stands we have group 1:

  • Kerry
  • Donegal
  • Mayo
  • Meath

It's hard to see Meath getting through to the last 4 as the just scraped into the competition against us. Donegal put up a grout show over their past few rounds and are my favourites to top the group

  • Dublin
  • Roscommon
  • Tyrone
  • Cork

with Mayo in second. Kerry have a great forward line but their team is young and small and can be bullied by more experienced teams.

For group 2:

  • Dublin
  • Roscommon
  • Tyrone
  • Cork

With Dublin going for 5 titles in a row it's hard to see anybody stopping them again this year. Other have come close but the majority get taken to the cleaners by one the best team i've ever seen play the game. They should top the group easily enough over the three games. Tyrone had a poor start to the season but seem to be motoring along much better now with big wins to qualify for the group. I think they will make the last four with Cork and Roscommon struggling against better opposition.

All the teams are playing this weekend and the first match is vital. With 1 home, 1 away and 1 neutral match for each team it makes winning your home game vital for qualification. I expect big crowds and good games as there are some mouthwatering clashes this weekend with Kerry at home to Mayo being my favourite.

Prediction for the last four has to be Dublin, Mayo, Tyrone and Donegal. Now we get to spend the month watching to see.

It's brilliant to see how far our sport can make it across the world. Sky sports show a lot of the games and i would be a huge hurling fan as well. I go to a lot of the games.

There are a few other Irish people on steem and i can see them posting about our sports as well. I'll use the tag #gaa for anything that's up and can hopefully show them to a few more people as well.

Yes in my country colombia soccer is the most popular game but i'm a person who likes know new alternatives and in this case gaelic football and hurling are sports in my list, why both sports aren't popular in other countries? for example rugby is very popular in europe and something in latin america, gaelic football is a spectacular show in would like to see in a future a world cup about this sports wow that's will be epic. Regards

It's popular amongst irish people but it's a fully amatuer sport that most people have never heard about. We don't try to market much ouside the country but there are clubs in most parts of the world from people who have emigrated.

Maybe in future their will be more demand across the world but it's a very local and tribal thing still. Without paying the players it would be hard to compete with the bigger sports.

We have two national sports in Ireland called Hurling and Gaelic Football. They are some of the oldest in the world and the origin for a lot of the current day ones like football, cricket and ice hockey. Hurling can be traced back thousands of years though written texts and old items. They are both fully amateur with clubs spread across the world but a higher lever of team based over here.
