Should You Get Close To Your Attacker Or Make The Distance?

If you read my posts, you know that I talk about controlling distance in a fight. It is a crucial factor in combat. The thing is, no matter how good the attacker is at punching, he will not be able to touch you if you are not in a punching range.

When you are in a punching range, your opponent can strike and hit you. Now maybe you are wondering whether you should get close to your attacker or make the distance. It depends on the situation and how you are going to handle the situation.

If you decide to attack the attacker, do not want to give him a chance, you like to be close to him. So you can cling to him, stop him, or hit him first. Attacking is the best defense based on the situation. If you are sure that you cannot get out of there easily and your life is in danger, you can make your first move to attack the attacker.

The attacker might have weapons. When you see him drawing his weapon, you can stop him fast before drawing the weapon if you are close to the attacker. Once he is able to draw his weapon, it might get difficult to handle the situation. So what you want to do is to stop him right there.

You have this advantage if you are in a close range. The attacker can attack you, or you can stop the attacker and make your first move.

If you do not want to get in a fight, you can consider making the distance between you and the attacker. You do not know what's going on. In case you are in a close range, the attacker can attack you fast, and you might find it difficult to defend. It is up to you and your observation of the situation.

You can make the distance and put your hands up. But please do not put your hands up with a fist. It can give the obvious signal that you want to fight or you are ready to attack. You want to avoid the situation, so if you stop the attacker without fighting, that's better.
