Self Defense Against Bear Hug
Today we are talking about how to escape a bear hug. It is a common attack. Someone comes from the behind and does a bear hug. If that person is bigger and stronger than you, it becomes a little difficult to release from it. And if he holds and lifts you up, that is a serious problem. Your legs are not on the ground.
When the attacker holds you from the behind, you have to react fast. Before he grabbing your tight, grab his hand, do elbow strike. If he grabs you tight, make sure that he cannot lift you up. Ground yourself and keep body balance. Then you can make your move.
What if you are not able to do that, and he has already lifted you up. You can use your leg to hit him to his knee or groin. You can use your entire body weight and strength to force in a certain direction, or something that is not expected. Sometimes doing something that is totally unexpected works like magic. And you can get rid of this.

Now I'm going to share another technique that is not on this video. When someone holds you really tight, you can use this technique step by step.
1. Squeeze your body from the normal position. It will give your space.
2. Move your one leg little to the side and raise your both hand arms upward with speed and power.
3. He will not be able to hold you anymore. Now do elbow strike instantly.
You can apply this technique in any situation if someone holds/bear hug you from the behind.
Only knowing something, but you do not practice that, it will not help you. So ask your friend or training partner to practice this. Then you will get used to it. If you face any situation like this, you can use this technique to escape a bear hug.
