Need To Know When and How To Strike - Self Defense
To defend yourself, you have to know how to use your heads, legs, and entire body against the attacker. If you know how to kick, you can kick. If you know how to punch, hammer fist, chop, elbow strike, you can do that.
I often say practice with your training partner, spar with your partner. The fact is, knowing how to strike is not enough. Sometimes people ask questions like whether someone can learn martial arts on his/her own. Watching videos and reading posts about martial arts can help you in the journey of learning martial arts. Having an instructor is very important.
Your teacher can see your moves and show you exactly what needs to be corrected. You may not realize that you are making mistakes. Your teacher can not only tell you what you do not make right but also show you how to do it.
I write about martial arts and self defense regularly. And I'm telling you only reading posts like this and taking no action will not help you much to learn self defense. I can say some nice and motivational things, and that might make you feel better. But that's not the fact. You will know sooner or later what works. I'm telling you what I know, my friend.
So you learn how to punch and kick. You need to learn how to put it into action. When you train with your partner, you know when to use it. For example, if you are too close to your opponent, you cannot punch. Again if you are far away from your opponent, you cannot punch. Yes, you can punch, but that punch does not even touch your opponent.
Understanding distance is very important. Then you can control the distance in a fight. You can kick when you are in the kicking range, you can punch when you are in a punching range, and if you are too close, you can do elbow strike, knee charge, and hit the opponent foot with the heel of your foot.
You will learn many things automatically when you spar with your partner. You kick to your training partner, and he already moves away. So you need to move forward to kick and hit him. You can use this movement when you have to fight for self defense.
Have patience. Learn step by step. And the most important thing is, enjoy the journey of learning martial arts. Thank you so much for reading this so far.
