Fighting Stance - Are You Ready To Fight?
When you see someone fighting who practices martial arts, she or he stands in a certain way. It is like the person is standing a little to the side. Yes, that's the fighting stance. There are some stances you will learn when you train martial arts. For example, wide stance, fighting stance, fighting stance for dealing with multiple attackers, and so on.
When you stand in a fighting stance, your hands should be up, and there is a gap between your legs. Your knees will be bent, and it will be outside. Your front hand will be at a 45-degree angle, and your backhand will be up to the chin. Keep your weight on both legs qual and look forward.
You will find a little variation of fighting stance in different martial arts such as Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do, Boxing, Karate, and so on. Fighting stance is designed to defend yourself as well as attacking the opponent.
When you punch or kick, you will get back to the same stance. If you move forward or to the side, you are in the same position. Your knees bend, and your hands are up. If someone kicks you, you can easily defend that with your hand. And at the same time, you are ready to counter-attack.
Someone can punch you. Since your hands are up and you can block that punch and make your move pretty fast. Your opponent can kick to your knee. In case, he is able to hit your knee, and your knees are not bent facing outside, your knee will be broken.
You need to practice the basic fighting stance. You can learn how to step forward and retreat and how to change your fighting stance. When you get used to this, you do not have to think where your hands and legs should be. Standing in a fighting stance will become your second nature.
Fighting stance is there so that you can fight effectively. It is not there to restrict you. When you fight for self defense, it is not that you have to stand in a fighting stance and then fight. Fighting stance is already there inside you. You can kick, punch, palm strike freely, you are in a fighting stance.
Sometimes I see when people kick, their hands are not in the proper place. They drop their hands or move another way. When you are in a fight, you can get attacked at the time of kicking.
Okay, the attacker whom you are kicking might not fight back that time, but how about another attacker? He can strike you from the side. So think about facing multiple attackers. You should keep your hands in the proper place to protect yourself.
