5 Common Muay Thai Roundhouse Kick Mistakes - Perfect Your Kick

avatar

You know how to kick. Do you know whether you make mistakes doing kicks?

There is little difference in kicks in every martial arts. You can see the variation based on the style of martial art. If you do Muay Thai, you can pay more attention in case you make one of these mistakes.

  1. Not turning your hips over
  2. Extend leg too early
  3. No arm movement
  4. Not stepping out first
  5. Not setting up with punches

When you kick and it does not generate power, it will have almost zero impact even if that hits the target. So what's the point of kicking then? That's why, speed, power, and accuracy are so important. If you do it right, you will see the difference.

Let's watch this video. And you can also see how to make it right.

Wait a second. This is not the way we kick. Yes, that depends on which martial art you are practicing. As I said earlier, you see the variation in kicks in different martial arts.

The basics are the same no matter which martial art you are learning. When you kick, it is not only the leg that hits and has an impact, use your entire body to make it work for you.

Turn your waist when you make a roundhouse kick, otherwise, your kick will not be as effective as it should be. Just turn your waist and kick, you will be surprised how much power you can generate just making this small change.

Your footwork is very important when you kick. In a fight, no one will come to you and say, okay, now kick me and you will stand there and kick. This is not going to happen. You have to know how to move forward and how to move backward. You are also supposed to know how to move side to side. In a fight, you can move side and throw the kick. Now practice the roundhouse kick with stepping forward and stepping to the side.

At the time of kicking, don't think you will not get hit. So keep your hands up so that if anything happens while doing kicks, you are ready to protect yourself and defend that.

After the roundhouse kick, pull your leg pretty fast. When pulling your leg, bend your leg and pull. Don't give any chance to your opponent to catch your leg. Ask your training partner and practice roundhouse kick with him and see if he is able to catch your leg.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. If you like martial arts and want to learn more about self defense, you can check out my other posts.
