Boxing: the dangers within

avatar

boxing-100733_1280.jpg

A second boxer has died in the space of a week from injuries that they received whilst in the ring.

The first was Russian boxer was the 28 year old Maxim Dadashev who died as a direct consequence of the injuries he received in the ring last Friday night. After the fight he was put into a medically induiced coma but died some few days later on Tuesday.

The second boxer was Hugo Alfredo Santillan, a mere 23 years old. He was fighting in Buenos Aires on Wednesday night when he started bleeding from the nose in the fourth round. At the end of the fight he fainted as the result was announced and was taken to Hospital where he died.

Events like these are tragic. They bring out the bleeding hearts ho start to cry out for tighter controls and restrictions in the ring.

They say that boxing in this day and age is barbaric.

Yes. It is barbaric.

But that's the whole point. Boxers are no victims, coerced into a sport they do not wish to do.

Contact sports are dangerous. They always will be. They always should be.

They know the risks, they take them. They take them to be the best. To make something of themselves and achieve things in their lives and for their families.

When we lose one, or even two as sadly happened this week, we should mourn. But to call for the end of Boxing as we know it, is wrong and it does their memory a disservice.

I do love a good boxing fight. Yes there is a big risk but there is alot more to boxing than the punches. Some guys I know in my town would be 6 feet under already if it wasnt for boxing. The coaches took them off the streets and gave them a purpose. Most of them wouldnt go near drink or drugs now while all their former friends went down the wrong road. If you look at it this way I really do think boxing saved more lives than anything.

Totally agree, I know people who have been totally saved by it and it saves so many from the wrong road as you say. It's a great thing for a lot of disadvantaged guys and offers a way out, or at least a different way of living

There's more fatalities in boxing than MMA even though the padding on the gloves is smaller.

However in MMA you spend way less time getting punched in the head and pro boxers hit harder than MMA guys.

That is true. As you say, pro boxers hit harder punch-wise as it is their only weapon compared to MMA.

One could argue that MMA fighters spend half their time rolling about on the floor also but that would be mean! ;O)

It was a steemmonsters giveaway loosely predicated on the question being sports related. I disagreed with the rewards being allocated

Thanks for your response.
This is not a "simple giveaway"- It is a price for the betgame to the german soccer league and soccer cup. You can read that here.
https://www.sportstalksocial.com/deutsch/@tippspiel-de/tippspiel-1-bundesliga-spieltag-1-gewinne-bis-zu-20-sbi-uvm

I have no big stalk or other possibilities to support this betting game, but I play Steemmonsters and offered the cards there as an additional prize.

50 people have rated this positively. Do you think it's ok just because you didn't see the connection to kill 60% of the rewards?

That's not really fair.

If so, then this was my last post here. This has nothing to do with social aspects, but is pure arbitrariness of stalk holders.

The platform lives from interaction and that comes about through such games. Or would you rather have just the flood of automated Actifit cards here? THIS is pure spam, because these messages are ALL the same and nobody interacts with them.

Regards from Germany

It's nothing personal but I just don't see it. It's a guess the answer to a sports question and win a prize in which you gain rewards from the post. I personally don't like those kind of posts because I don't want to see sportstalk just riddled with guess the question games. I disagreed with the rewards so used the downvote to balance it out.

If you don't see the context, you should work on your language skills or use a translator. It doesn't matter to me now.

I will pass it on to all other participants so that only Actifit Spam is welcome here and sportstalksocial will lose a lot of content producers.

I am out.
Have fun further on.

I did use a translator.

Enjoy taking your competitions elsewhere

Hey :) First I would like to thank you for your effort to improve this community. It seems like you did get something wrong this time. Maybe because of bad translation. I dislike competitions, that require upvotes too, but this is not the case here. Everyone is allowed to participate without any upvoting or resteeming. I don't think you disagree with that kind of content, because you did promote basicly the same contest on a fantasy football game on the Premier League yourself 20 days ago, that got a you reward of 22 000 Sports: Link to your post. I would kindly like to ask you to rethink your decision.

If you discover any German content that you are not sure about if the content is spam or may add value to the community, feel free to contact me and I will be happy to help you :)

Have a nice day, @elbiasto

Hello.

It is for the community that I am doing it yes.

There seems to be some miscommunication. I did not say anything about the competition requiring upvotes being the reason for me downvoting it.

I disagreed with the rewards for a steemmonsters card giveaway in which the only thing sports related was the question?

You think I am a hypocrite because I posted about a sports competition myself? I disagree. A fantasy football league is entirely different from an answer a single question type contest. In fact I promote/upvote contests that add value. In this case, I did not see it.

He is upset, and will post no more. That is a shame. It was nothing personal

Well it was not only a question. It's about predicting the games of a matchday of the German Bundesliga. Here at Germany people are not used to play fantasy football, because most fantasy football sites are not allowed at Germany. That's why predicting the score is a very big thing here and basicly every german football fan does it. In my opinion it's sports related and does add value to the community.
But of course it's your very own decision how you are using your voting power.

Kind regards, @elbiasto

Indeed, on that we will have to disagree.

Downvotes are part of the system and with HF21 coming people should be ready for more passionate actors to safeguard their stake with them. It would be a shame if he stopped posting entirely but if a contrary downvote bothers him so much then perhaps it's for the best.

Rewards are not yours until the end of the voting window and the total is the sum of the upvotes minus the downvotes. It's as simple as that

Well in my opinion there is a big problem with downvoting. Most people who get a downvote just go to the downvoter and give him a downvote too on one or all of his posts. Thats what makes it very hard for small Accounts to downvote a big Account, because they will lose all their rewards.
I think the only solution to solve that problem is to create a second Account that does not post but only downvote bad content.

Hopefully though, that might change. I would always recommend that a small account not downvote a gigantic account but it doesnt always end in a flag war

I don't really create content now. I just up and down vote, it's easier that way
